LSC Play Begins
It's go time for Lone Star Conference volleyball as league play gets underway with two matches on Wednesday (Sept. 25) and a full slate over the Thursday-Friday-Saturday weekend (Sept. 26-28). … Angelo State is the hottest team heading into the LSC schedule with a 10-1 record and a nine-match win streak that includes Ws over a trio of Top 25 teams. After opening 0-2, UT Permian Basin has rattled off seven wins (7-2) and faces a challenge Saturday hosting No. 3 West Texas A&M. … LSC newcomer Sul Ross State plays its first Division II home matches meeting St. Edward's Friday and St. Mary's Saturday afternoon.
LSC Challenge
Teams readied for the conference schedule with play in the LSC Challenge. Midwestern State, St. Mary's, Texas Women's, UT Permian Basin and Angelo State were each undefeated in Challenge play while St. Edward's and Eastern New Mexico took two-of-three matches. … Ten of the 17 LSC teams post season records of .500 or better through the first three weeks of the 2024 season.

OFFENSIVE
Chyra Thompson, UT Permian Basin, Middle Hitter, Sr., Biology, Killeen, Texas
Middle hitter Chyra Thompson averaged 3.83 kills and 1.17 blocks in a pair of 3-0 wins vs. Texas A&M International and Lubbock Christian to extend UT Permian Basin's win streak to seven matches. Thompson posted a .583 attack percentage powering 23 kills, with 12 kills against TAMIU. The senior's .786 attack and 11 kills vs. LCU led the Falcons to a single match hitting percentage record (.392). Thompson added seven blocks and averaged 4.50 points over the two LSC Challenge matches.
DEFENSIVE
Alyssa Koehl, St. Mary's, Libero, Jr., Exercise Sport Science, New Braunfels, Texas
Alyssa Koehl continued to lead the St. Mary's defense, collecting at least 12 digs in each of the LSC Challenge sweeps of Oklahoma Christian, Cameron and St. Edward's. The junior libero posted a weekend-best 26 digs against OC and three service aces vs. Cameron, adding 11 assists and a .909 reception percentage in the wins. Koehl's 5.89 digs per set brought her to 1,101 digs for her career, moving her up to 12th on the StMU career charts.
SETTER
Grace Reynolds, Texas Woman's, Setter, Jr., Business Management, Martinsville, Ind.
Setter Grace Reynolds directed the Texas Woman's offense to a pair of 3-2 wins over Texas A&M-Kingsville and UT Tyler in its LSC Challenge matches. The junior recorded a career high 45 assists and five kills with 13 digs vs. TAMUK, then came back with 30 assists and 14 digs against UTT. The totals marked Reynolds' third straight double-double and seventh of the season as TWU moved its win streak to four matches.
FRESHMAN
Demi Carter, Angelo State, Middle Blocker, Fr., Marketing, Bridge City, Texas
Middle blocker Demi Carter recorded 2.5 kills per set and hit .563 as she helped No. 21 Angelo State to a pair of ranked wins at the LSC Challenge. Against No. 20 DBU, the freshman put up a career-high 12 kills and an ASU season-best .611 attack percentage in the four-set win. Carter came back with eight kills (.500 attack) in the 3-1 win vs. No. 3 West Texas A&M.
