LONE STAR CONFERENCE MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK | Games of Jan. 9-11
OFFENSIVE
Maison Adeleye, UT Permian Basin, G/F, Sr., Management, Arlington, Texas
UT Permian Basin senior guard/forward Maison Adeleye averaged 25 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and one block to fuel wins over Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M. Adeleye shot 51.6 percent from the field and made 7 of 15 three-point attempts. In the 78-74 victory over ENMU, Adeleye had a game-high 26 points and hit the game-sealing layup with 10 second left. In a 78-71 win against WT, he scored 20-plus points for the fourth straight game. Adeleye, who won the league’s top weekly defensive award earlier this season, added a steal and pulled down all his rebounds on the defensive end. His play helped the Falcons’ secure their fourth consecutive win – seventh over their last eight games – and stay atop the LSC standings.
DEFENSIVE
Chuks Ejiofor, UT Permian Basin, F, So., Exercise Science, Garland, Texas
UT Permian Basin sophomore forward Chuks Ejiofor came off the bench to block eight shots – including a school-record seven in one game – and pull down eight rebounds to help the Falcons secure victories against Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M. Ejiofor’s single-game block total came in a 78-71 win over WT and broke the mark set by Erik Martin during the 2011-12 season. It was the second highest single-game total in the league this season. In a 78-74 victory against ENMU, Ejiofor and company held the league’s top-scoring offense to just 37.5 percent shooting. Ejiofor also added a bucket and three free throws as the Falcons stayed atop the LSC standings and extended their winning streak to four games.
