The Lone Star Conference men’s basketball season is in full swing.
St. Mary’s (12-4 overall) is atop the
conference standings at 9-1 and is riding a league-high six-game winning streak. DBU (17-3) is 9-2 and has won three games in a row. Angelo State (11-6, 7-4 LSC) and West Texas A&M (12-5, 7-4) also won both their games last week.
Midwestern State is 7-0 at home, while St. Edward’s is 6-0 on its home floor. DBU is the league’s only unbeaten road team at 8-0.
This week’s slate features eight games on Thursday and eight more on Saturday.
Eastern New Mexico is scoring a league-high 92.1 points per game, while Angelo State is allowing a league-low 65.2 points per game.
Sul Ross State’s Ethan Yancy has the top scoring performance this season with 44 on the road against Eastern New Mexico on Jan. 16. West Texas A&M’s Ahamed Mohammed, Oklahoma Christian’s Keyondre Young, MSU teammates Mason Gibson and Pierre Sanders, Texas A&M International’s Anthony Ignowski, DBU’s Ricky Lujan and UTPB’s Dario Domingos have hit the 30-point mark. Domingos and UTPB’s Freedie Word have the most rebounds in a game (16) and TAMIU’s Duncan Alevok has an eight-block performance. ENMU’s Austin Abrams has game-highs in assists (11) and steals (seven). TAMIU’s Marco Foster has made a league-best eight 3-pointers in a game.
Mohammed is averaging a league-high 18.1 points per game, followed by StMU’s Damani Claxton (17.3) and Yancy (17.2). More league stat leaders include: Cameron’s Jaxon Ingram (10 rebounds pg), CU’s Reggie Prudhomme (6.2 assists pg) and ENMU’s Jose Murillo (1.6 blocks pg). WT’s Jailyn Sledge and DBU’s Xavion Brown are averaging 2.3 steals per game. Murillo is shooting 70.6 percent (96-for-136) from the field, while OC’s Marcos Foster is shooting 46.8 percent (51-for-109) from 3-point range. Western New Mexico’s Carson Kelly is shooting 89.2 percent (58-for-65) from the free-throw line.
The LSC Basketball Championship will be March 6-9 at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. The top eight of the 16 men’s teams based on overall conference standings (22 games) will qualify. The men’s quarterfinals will be on March 7, followed by the semifinals on March 8 and the title game on March 9.

Ethan Yancy, Sul Ross State, G, Sr., Undeclared, Houston, Texas
Sul Ross State senior guard Ethan Yancy scored a school-record 44 points – also the most in the LSC this year and highest since the 2021-22 season – to lead the Lobos to their first conference victory. In Yancy’s record-setting performance on the road against Eastern New Mexico (a 110-101 win), he also had 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals. On the week, Yancy averaged 29 points 6.5 rebounds, three assists and two steals. He shot 55.6 from the field and was 7-for-14 from 3-point range. Yancy scored a team-high 14 points in just 20 minutes on the road against West Texas A&M to extend his double figure scoring streak to three games.
DEFENSIVE
Lachlan Bofinger, St. Mary’s, F, Gr., International Relations, Sydney, Australia
St. Mary’s forward Lachlan Bofinger helped the Rattlers extend their conference winning streak to nine games by averaging 9.5 rebounds against Cameron and Oklahoma Christian. The graduate student also had three steals and two blocked shots. Fifteen of his rebounds were on the defensive end. Against Cameron, Bofinger had a 16-point, 10-board double double. Bofinger, who also won the league’s top weekly offensive award two weeks ago, averaged 14 points on 50 percent shooting. Bofinger and company have won six games in a row with the last four coming on the road.
