LSC Indoor Track and Field Release - Week 2

The 2025 Lone Star Conference men’s and women’s indoor track and field season officially began in early December. After a lengthy break in action for most teams, the competition returned in full force this past weekend as six men’s teams and seven women’s teams competed.
 
LSC athletes shined and added to their NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark total. It is now 54 – 25 men and 29 women. To see the conference’s men’s and women’s top performance lists, click here.

The LSC Indoor Track and Field Championships are set for Feb. 21-22 at Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M. West Texas A&M is the defending conference champion on the men’s and women’s side. The Buffs have won four in a row, while the Lady Buffs have prevailed 11 consecutive years.
 
The NCAA Division II Championship will be held March 13-15 at Fall Creek Pavilion at Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, Ind.
 
 
LONE STAR CONFERENCE INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

MEN’S TRACK
Aziz Mohammed, West Texas A&M, Jr., Sports and Exercise Science, Dunkwa-On-Offin, Central, Ghana
West Texas A&M junior Aziz Mohammed impressed in his first indoor race of the season, running a 4:09.84 to win the mile at the Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas. Mohommed’s NCAA Division II provisional mark – converted to 4:06.94 because of altitude – is the eighth fastest time in program history. It is also tops in the LSC this season and ranks Top 15 in the nation.
 
MEN’S FIELD
David Guzman, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Fr., Undecided, Querataro, Mexico
Texas A&M-Kingsville freshman David Guzman posted a NCAA Division II provisional shot put throw of 58’ 3.25 (17.76m) to finish as runner-up at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational in Houston, Texas. Guzman, who finished behind a NCAA Division I opponent, now has the top throw in the LSC this season and seventh best throw in the country.
 
WOMEN’S TRACK
Blessing Akintoye, West Texas A&M, So., Health Science, Ogun State, Nigeria
West Texas A&M sophomore Blessing Akintoye ran a 55.64 to win her heat of the 400 meters at the Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas. Akintoye’s NCAA Division II provisional mark – converted to 55.75 due to altitude – ranks 12th in the nation this season. Akintoye also competed in the 4x400 meter relay, running the anchor of a 3:45.85 (converted to 3:46.29), which was the highest Division II result at the meet. The time also ranks sixth in the country.
 
WOMEN’S FIELD
Laniyah Curry, Oklahoma Christian, Fr., Nursing, Edmond, Okla.
Oklahoma Christian freshman Laniyah Curry won gold and set a school record in the long jump with a 19-5.00 (5.92m) at the Friends University First Chance Qualifier in Wichita, Kan. Curry’s NCAA Division II provisional mark is best in the LSC and ranks seventh in the country.
