Since a lengthy break after starting the season, it has been two straight weekends of nonstop Lone Star Conference indoor track and field action. This weekend will be no different.

The LSC Indoor Track and Field Championships are set for Feb. 21-22 at Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M. West Texas A&M is the defending conference champion on the men’s and women’s side. The Buffs have won four in a row, while the Lady Buffs have prevailed 11 consecutive years.
The NCAA Division II Championship will be held March 13-15 at Fall Creek Pavilion at Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, Ind.

MEN’S TRACK
Troy Whyte, West Texas A&M, Sr., General Business, Orange Bay, Jamaica
West Texas A&M senior Troy Whyte posted a 7.92 in the 60 meters at the Red Raider Invitational in Lubbock, Texas. Whyte finished fifth overall in a field that included all other NCAA Division I athletes. His NCAA Division II provisional time ranks seventh in the country. Whyte also was a part of the Buffs’ 4x400 meter relay team that recorded a 3:22.31.
MEN’S FIELD
Oleg Ananyev, Angelo State, Fr., Management, Irkutsk, Russia
Angelo State freshman Oleg Ananyev earned an NCAA Division II provisional mark in the pole vault by clearing 17-5.5 (5.32m) at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. Ananyev was the top Division II finisher in the event. His mark is tops in the LSC and ranks second in the entire country.
WOMEN’S TRACK
Abigail Abugire, West Texas A&M, Fr., Sports and Exercise Science, Legon, Ghana
West Texas A&M freshman Abigail Abugire set a new program record in the 800 meters, running a 2:07.19 at the Red Raider Invitational in Lubbock, Texas. She topped Raquel Chavez’s mark of 2:14.44 set at the 2024 LSC Championships. Abugire finished as runner-up in the event behind only an NCAA Division I athlete. Her NCAA Division II provisional mark ranks second in the entire country.
WOMEN’S FIELD
Meadow Gallentine, West Texas A&M, Jr., Psychology, Anson, Texas
West Texas A&M junior Meadow Gallentine won the weight throw with a 19.53m (64’ 0 ¾”) at the UCCS Invite in Colorado Springs, Colo. Gallentine’s NCAA Division II provisional throw is the second best in program history and tops in the country. Gallentine also finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 12.53m.
