After a quiet 13 days where there were only two games – both non-conference – since Dec. 20, Lone Star Conference men’s basketball returned in full force on Jan. 3 with eight league games and then eight more on Jan. 5.
Two teams are atop the
conference standings at 6-1: DBU (14-2 overall) and UT Permian Basin (10-3). Lubbock Christian (10-4 overall) and St. Mary’s (8-4) are 5-1 in league play.
DBU has the top winning streak at five games. UTPB, LCU, StMU, Angelo State and St. Edward’s have won back-to-back games.
Three LSC teams have not lost at home: SEU (6-0), Midwestern State (5-0) and ASU (4-0). DBU is the only squad perfect on the road at 6-0.
Eastern New Mexico is averaging a league-high 93.1 points per game and ASU is allowing a league-low 63.4 points per game.
MSU’s Mason Gibson has two 30-point games (33 and 31), while OC’s Keyondre Young (32), WT’s Ahamed Mohammed (32), DBU’s Ricky Lujan (30) and UTPB’s Dario Domingos (30) have also hit that mark. Domingos has the most rebounds in a game (16) and Texas A&M International’s Duncan Alevok has an eight-block performance. ENMU’s Austin Abrams has game-highs in assists (11) and steals (seven). Four players have made a league-best six 3-pointers in a game.
Young is averaging a league-high 18.5 points per game, followed by Gibson (18) and Mohammed (17.3). More league stat leaders include: CU’s Jaxon Ingram (10.3 rebounds pg), Cameron’s Reggie Prudhomme (5.8 assists pg) and ENMU’s Cooper Jackson (3.9 steals pg). Ingram and ENMU’s Jose Murillo are averaging 1.6 blocks per game. Murillo is shooting 73.4 percent (69-for-94) from the field and Young is shooting 50 percent (37-for-74) from 3-point range. Western New Mexico’s Carson Kelly is shooting 87.5 percent (42-for-48) from the free-throw line.
The LSC Basketball Championship will March 6-9 at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. The top eight of the 16 men’s teams based on overall conference standings (22 games) will qualify. The men’s quarterfinals will be on March 7, followed by the semifinals on March 8 and the title game on March 9.

Lachlan Bofinger, St. Mary’s, F, Gr., International Relations, Sydney, Australia
St. Mary’s forward Lachlan Bofinger averaged 23 points, 12 rebounds and five assists to fuel a pair of conference wins over Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville. The graduate student, who shot 69.2 percent from the field, added two blocked shots. He had a double double in both games – his fourth consecutive – and flirted with a triple double in an overtime win against TAMUK (18 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists). Against TAMIU, the Rattlers trailed by seven points with 9:50 to play. Bofinger then poured in 10 points over four minutes to give his team a lead they wouldn’t relinquish and finished with a game-high 28. Bofinger’s play has helped StMU win five straight league games.
DEFENSIVE
Sean Murphy, Lubbock Christian, F, Sr., Sport Management, Auckland, New Zealand
Lubbock Christian senior forward Sean Murphy pulled down a team-leading seven rebounds per game to fuel road wins over Eastern New Mexico and No. 4 West Texas A&M. Murphy, who added 11.5 points per game on 61.1 percent shooting, had 10 of his rebounds on the defensive end. He spearheaded a unit that allowed just 59.5 points per game and 37 percent shooting. Murphy and company held WT to its lowest point total (48) since the 2013-14 season. They held ENMU to its second-lowest point total (71) of the season. Murphy has helped LCU to seven wins over its last eight games.
