After two weeks of Lone Star Conference men’s soccer league matches, only three teams remain without a loss: Lubbock Christian (3-5-3, 2-0-2 LSC), Sul Ross State (5-2-3, 2-0-1 LSC) and new league member UT Dallas (6-3-2, 2-0-1 LSC). No. 22 Midwestern State (7-2-3, 3-1 LSC) has the most points with nine.
MSU has won a league-high three matches in a row. SRSU has an eight-match unbeaten streak, while LCU and UTD have not lost in four matches.
SRSU and MSU have the top scoring average in the league at two goals per game, while SRSU is allowing a league-low .90 goals per game. MSU, LCU and St. Mary’s are allowing just one goal per game.
LSC play continues this week with five matches on Wednesday (Oct. 15) and five more on Saturday (Oct. 18).
MSU is the favorite to win the LSC title this season, according the
preseason poll. SEU’s Arthur Souza and StMU teammates Luke Mulkey and Johnny Thurbin were voted
preseason players of the year.
The LSC men's soccer tournament will be comprised of the top six teams and is scheduled for Nov. 8 (quarterfinals), Nov. 12 (semifinals) and Nov. 15 (final). The quarterfinals will be held on campus of the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds; the semifinals are hosted by the No. 1 and No. 2 seed; and title match will be hosted by the highest remaining seed.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE MEN’S SOCCER PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSIVE
Liam Kervick, Midwestern State, F, Jr., Finance, Poland
Midwestern State junior forward Liam Kervick contributed to both game-winners against UT Tyler and Oklahoma Christian. Kervick scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 home win over UT Tyler. He then assisted on the game-winning score in a 2-0 victory against Oklahoma Christian. Kervick’s performances helped the No. 22-ranked Mustangs to three straight wins and five victories over their last six matches.
DEFENSIVE
Davis Mays, Midwestern State, D, Gr., Criminal Justice, Wichita Falls, Texas
Midwestern State graduate student and defender Davis Mays led a backline that did not allow a goal over two conference wins against UT Tyler and Oklahoma Christian. Mays and company went on the road and kept OC off the scoreboard for just the second time this season. Mays’ play has helped the No. 22-ranked Mustangs to three straight victories and five wins over their last six matches.

St. Edward’s junior goalkeeper Angel Ramirez helped fuel an unbeaten week with a shutout and 11 saves against Sul Ross State and St. Mary’s. In a 2-0 win over St. Mary’s, Ramirez made seven stops. Ramirez earned a draw on the road against SRSU, which had won two matches in a row. He played all 180 minutes of the two conference games.
