All 17 Lone Star Conference women’s basketball teams have gotten their season underway. Of those, two are still unbeaten: No. 7 Lubbock Christian (6-0) and St. Mary’s (3-0).
 
No. 19 West Texas A&M has won four games in a row, while No. 6 Texas Woman’s has won three straight.
 
It will be an action-packed week of LSC hoops as 27 games are schedule between Monday and Sunday (excluding Thursday because of Thanksgiving).
 
TWU is the favorite to win the LSC title this season, according the preseason poll. WT senior guard Kyla Kane was voted preseason player of the year.
 
The LSC women’s basketball tournament will feature the top eight teams and is set for March 6-8 at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. Tickets will go on sale in February.
 
Due to being NCAA Division II provisional members, new league member UT Dallas and Sul Ross State are not eligible for the LSC tournament but are able to win the LSC regular season title and postseason awards.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSIVE
Meg Meekins, Lubbock Christian, G, Fr., Exercise Science, Nacona, Texas
Lubbock Christian freshman guard Meg Meekins averaged 24.5 points, five rebounds and 3.5 assists to fuel a 2-0 week against Southern Nazarene and Southern Arkansas. Meekins shot 58.1 percent from the field and made 11 of 17 from three-point range. She also added three steals as the No. 7-ranked Lady Chaps stayed unbeaten on the season at 6-0 and extended their home unbeaten streak to 21 games. In Meekins’ home debut against Southern Nazarene, she scored 24 points and made six 3s.
 
DEFENSIVE
Gabby Elliott, Texas Woman’s, F, Sr., Kinesiology, San Antonio, Texas
Texas Woman’s senior forward Gabby Elliott had a double double that included 10 defensive rebounds to fuel a 78-44 win over Southern Nazarene. Elliott, who also added a block, led a unit that allowed only 31.4 percent shooting and forced 19 turnovers. She had 15 points, 13 rebounds and two assists as the No. 6-ranked Pioneers extended their winning streak to three games. Elliott leads the conference with 35 defensive board this season and is second with 11 blocks.
