Of the 17 Lone Star Conference men’s basketball teams, five are still unbeaten: St. Edward’s (9-0), West Texas A&M (7-0), Lubbock Christian (6-0), St. Mary’s (5-0) and UT Tyler (4-0).
The LSC has four teams ranked in the top 15 of the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II Top 25 Poll: LCU (5), StMU (13), SEU (14) and WT (15). Angelo State (8-1) is receiving votes.
LSC teams are playing well as all but four have won their last game. Eastern New Mexico (5-1) has won five games in a row, while Western New Mexico (5-1) has prevailed in four consecutive games. ASU has won three in a row and DBU (4-4) has back-to-back victories.
Conference games begin this week with two games on Wednesday, six on Thursday, one on Friday and seven on Saturday.
In non-conference play, LSC teams have gone 37-22 against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams.
DBU is the favorite to win the LSC title this season, according the
preseason poll. StMU senior guard Damani Claxton was voted
preseason player of the year.
The LSC men’s basketball tournament will feature the top eight teams and is set for March 5, 7-8 at
Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. Tickets will go on sale in February.
Due to being NCAA Division II provisional members, new league member UT Dallas and Sul Ross State are not eligible for the LSC tournament but are able to win the LSC regular season title and postseason awards.

OFFENSIVE
Andre Harris, Western New Mexico, F, Jr., Sport Science, Mesa, Ariz.
Western New Mexico junior forward Andre Harris averaged 19.5 points, eight rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks over two road wins against Colorado Christian and New Mexico Highlands. Harris had a season-high 21 points in an 85-79 win over Colorado Christian and a game-high 18 against New Mexico Highlands. On the week, he shot 47.6 percent to help the Mustangs extend their winning streak to four games – all away from home.
DEFENSIVE
Jose Murillo, Eastern New Mexico, F, Sr., University Studies, Chihuahua, Mexico
Eastern New Mexico senior forward Jose Murillo averaged 15 rebounds, three blocks and two steals to help lead the Greyhounds to a pair of wins over MSU Denver and CSU Pueblo. Murrillo pulled down 15 boards in each contest to become just the third player in program history with multiple 15-plus rebound games in a career. He also averaged 18 points and two assists as ENMU, which allowed just 34.5 percent shooting, improved its winning streak to five games. Murillo is the only player in the LSC averaging a double double (17.6 points and 10.2 rebounds).
