In a battle of ranked teams, DBU topped St. Mary’s 80-68 in San Antonio, Texas to take over the lead in the Lone Star Conference men’s basketball standings. DBU (23-3 overall, 15-2 LSC) extended its winning streak to nine games, while StMU (17-5, 14-2) saw its winning streak halted at 11.
 
In addition to DBU, winning two games last week was Eastern New Mexico, Lubbock Christian and Midwestern State. LCU (18-6, 13-3) has won six games in a row and is in third place in the league standings.
 
This week’s slate features eight games on Thursday and eight more on Saturday. Only three weeks remain in the regular season.
 
ENMU is scoring a league-high 88.6 points per game, while MSU is only allowing 65.8 points per game.
 
Sul Ross State’s Ethan Yancy (44 points) has the top-scoring performance this season. StMU’s Lachland Bofinger has the most rebounds in a game (17) and Texas A&M International’s Duncan Alevok has an eight-block performance. Eastern New Mexico’s Austin Abrams has game-highs in assists (11) and steals (seven). TAMIU’s Marco Foster made a league-best eight 3-pointers in a game.
 
DBU’s Ricky Lujan is averaging a league-high 17.7 points per game, followed by West Texas A&M’s Ahamed Mohammed (17.5). Yancy and StMU’s Damani Claxton are tied for third at 17.2. More league stat leaders include: StMU’s Lachlan Bofiner (10 rebounds pg), CU’s Reggie Prudhomme (5.6 assists pg) and ENMU’s Jose Murillo (1.3 blocks pg). ENMU’s Cooper Jasckson is averaging 3.6 steals per game. Murillo is shooting 70 percent (126-for-180) from the field, while teammate Cougar Downing is shooting 45 percent (50-for-111) from 3-point range. Western New Mexico’s Carson Kelly is shooting 91 percent (91-for-100) from the free-throw line.
 
Bofinger is the only player in the league averaging a double double (13.5 points and 10 boards).
 
The LSC Basketball Championship will be March 6-9 at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. The top eight of the 16 men’s teams based on overall conference standings (22 games) will qualify. The men’s quarterfinals will be on March 7, followed by the semifinals on March 8 and the title game on March 9. Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 10 a.m. CT. on Ticketmaster and the Comerica Center Box Office.

OFFENSIVE
Cameron Kahn, DBU, G, Sr., Sports Management, Sulphur Springs, Texas
DBU senior guard Cameron Kahn averaged 19 points, nine rebounds and two assists to lead the Patriots to road wins over St. Edward’s and fellow nationally-ranked St. Mary’s. Kahn shot 83.3 percent from the field (15-for-18), made his only 3-point try and went 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. He added three steals and two blocks. Kahn, who wins the league’s top weekly offensive award for the third time this season, had a double double of 22 points and 10 boards in an 80-68 win over St. Mary’s that snapped the Rattlers’ 11-game win streak. The victory was the Patriots' ninth in a row and also gave them sole possession of first place in the conference standings.
 
DEFENSIVE
Cooper Jackson, Eastern New Mexico, G, Jr., Business, Lawrence, Kan.
Eastern New Mexico junior guard Cooper Jackson came off the bench and had nine steals to lead the Greyhounds to wins over Angelo State and UT Permian Basin. Jackson, who leads the conference in steals, also blocked a shot. He had a game-high six steals against UTPB – his third game of the season with six or more takeaways. Jackson scored 10 points in the win over ASU. He also added three assists on the week. Jackson and company forced a combined 29 turnovers and turned them into 38 points.
