It's down to the last three weeks of the 2024-25 season, and teams look to position themselves for one of eight spots and seeding in the LSC Women's Basketball Tournament. Valentine's Day weekend has teams playing Division opponents ahead of a last set of cross-division games (Feb. 20,22) and travel partner matchups the last week of February.

 

Lubbock Christian secured the 2024-25 LSC West Division title with a pair of road wins against Western New Mexico and Sul Ross State (Feb. 6, 8), its third straight West Division championship. ... The Lady Chaps are joined by Texas Woman's and UT Tyler in a first-place tie in the LSC overall standings, each carrying 16-1 marks vs. all conference opponents to date. ... UT Tyler leads the East Division with an 11-0 record. ... Seeding for the eight-team LSC Tournament is based on overall standings (22 games). The East and West Division winners automatically qualify for the LSC Tournament but are not guaranteed a top two seed.

 

Six teams finished with 2-0 records over the Feb. 6-8 weekend with four teams posting 1-1 marks. ... Texas Woman's (23-1), LCU (22-3) and UT Tyler (21-2) have each reached the 20-win mark. LCU has collected 20 or more wins for five straight seasons (2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25) and TWU has four consecutive 20-win seasons (2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25).

 

Cameron senior guard Kennedy Cummings tallied a conference single-game best 12 assists to go with 17 points in the Aggies' 80-53 win over Texas A&M International (Feb. 6). ... Midwestern State finished with 16 steals at Western New Mexico, led by Calyssa Sevier's 5-steal performance (Feb. 8). ... TWU's Ashley Ingram grabbed 17 rebounds at St. Edward's (Feb. 6) while MSU's Kerbie Cash snagged 14 rebounds at WNMU (Feb. 8). ... Oklahoma Christian showed a hot hand against TAMIU, shooting 60.5 percent from the floor (26-of-43) in the 71-61 win (Feb. 8). ... West Texas A&M finished with 52 rebounds in its 66-59 win vs. Angelo State, led by Taytum Bell who totaled 11 boards. ... Lubbock Christian drained 12-of 26 three-point field attempts (.462) at WNMU (Feb. 6). ... Abby Bela collected six of Texas A&M-Kingsville's 13 steals at Oklahoma Christian (Feb. 6). ... Taysha Rushton posted 24 points vs. West Texas A&M and 20 points vs. ENMU to extend her string of 20-points plus games to three.
 

LSC in the Polls . . .

The LSC Basketball Tournament will be March 6-9 at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. The top eight seeds from the 16 women’s teams based on overall conference standings (22 games) will qualify. The women’s quarterfinals will be on March 6, followed by the semifinals on March 8 and the title game on March 9. Tickets are on sale on Ticketmaster and the Comerica Center Box Office.

Preparations for the 2025 NCAA Division II Championship will begin to take shape with the first region rankings of the season scheduled for release February 19. The initial listing will be in alphabetical order with subsequent rankings in numerical order on February 26, March 5 and the final ranking with the March 9 announcement of the tournament bracket. ... Regionals are scheduled at eight campus sites with the winners advancing to Pittsburgh, Pa., for the Elite Eight and finals.

 

November and December games against South Central Region rivals from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) will ultimately figure into the Division II regional rankings and postseason tournament berths. In the 43 inter-region games, the LSC posted a 30-13 (.698) record with four teams unbeaten in games against their RMAC opponents: LCU (4-0), UT Tyler (3-0), Texas Woman's (3-0) and Eastern New Mexico (3-0).

OFFENSIVE

Nataya Lockett, Eastern New Mexico, G, Jr., Business Administration, Omaha, Neb.

Junior Nataya Lockett helped Eastern New Mexico pick up two big West Division wins, upending Angelo State (71-67) and UT Permian Basin (71-66) to keep the Greyhounds in the mix for an LSC postseason berth. The guard led ENMU's offense, averaging 18.5 points shooting 61.5 percent from the floor and 60 percent from three-point range. She finished with 21 points against ASU and 16 points vs. UTPB and helped the Greyhounds' defense with three blocks and four steals while holding the weekend opponents to 39 percent shooting.

 

DEFENSIVE

Grace Foster, Lubbock Christian, Sr., F, Criminal Justice, Childress, Texas

Strong defensive play by Grace Foster fueled Lubbock Christian's fast-paced offense in a pair of LSC West Division title-clinching wins at Western New Mexico (77-46) and Sul Ross State (73-45). The senior forward averaged 7.0 rebounds – all defensive -- and 12.5 points to help the Lady Chaps hold the opponents to a combined 45.5 points on 34.3 percent shooting. Against Sul Ross State, Foster posted seven defensive rebounds and snagged three of LCU's season-high 11 steals to key conversion of 16 Lobos turnovers into 16 Lady Chaps' points. In addition to her play on the defensive end of the floor, Foster tied the LCU all-time scoring record (1,796 career points).
