Lubbock Christian’s McCool named NCBWA National Hitter of the Week

For the second consecutive week to start the season, a player from the Lone Star Conference is the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association National Hitter of the Week. Lubbock Christian senor infielder Brevin McCool earned the honor on Feb. 13 after a big four-game road series with eight extra-base hits.

McCool follows Cameron senior third baseman Lance Barnett, who was honored by the NCBWA on Feb. 6.

McCool, who is a native of Hobbs, N.M., went 10-for-16 with five home runs, three doubles and 10 RBI to lead the Chaps to a sweep of Sul Ross State. McCool scored 13 runs, walked four times – twice intentionally in the same game – was hit by a pitch and did not strike out. He had a pair of two-homer games and one with a long ball and two doubles. In the opener, McCool was a triple short of the cycle and drove in six runs.

McCool was also named LSC Hitter of the Week on Feb. 10 and NCBWA South Central Region Hitter of the Week on Feb. 11.

Pittsburg State (Kan.) graduate student and right-hander Kolby Dougan won the NCBWA's national pitcher of the week award.
