With just two weeks remaining in the Lone Star Conference men’s basketball season, DBU is atop the league
standings thanks to an 11-game winning streak. The Patriots, who are ranked No. 5 in the county, are 25-3 overall and 17-2 in conference play.
Lubbock Christian (20-6 overall) and St. Mary’s (18-6) are just behind DBU at 15-3 in league play. Midwestern State (19-5) is 14-4 in LSC games. All three teams are also receiving attention in the national polls.
LCU has won eight games in a row, while MSU has won five straight. Eastern New Mexico has built up a four-game winning streak and St. Edward’s has won three in a row. West Texas A&M also won both its games last week.
This week’s slate features eight games on Thursday and eight more on Saturday.
ENMU is scoring a league-high 89.2 points per game, while MSU is only allowing 65.3 points per game.
Sul Ross State’s Ethan Yancy (44 points) has the top-scoring performance this season. StMU’s Lachland Bofinger has the most rebounds in a game (17) and Texas A&M International’s Duncan Alevok has an eight-block performance. Eastern New Mexico’s Austin Abrams has game-highs in assists (11) and steals (seven). TAMIU’s Marco Foster made a league-best eight 3-pointers in a game.
West Texas A&M’s Ahamed Mohammed is averaging a league-high 17.7 points per game, followed by Yancy (17.6), DBU’s Ricky Lujan (17.5), MSU’s Mason Gibson (17.0) and StMU’s Damani Claxton (16.8). More league stat leaders include: StMU’s Lachlan Bofiner (10 rebounds pg), CU’s Reggie Prudhomme (5.8 assists pg) and ENMU’s Jose Murillo (1.4 blocks pg). ENMU’s Cooper Jackson is averaging 3.5 steals per game. Murillo is shooting 70.3 percent (135-for-192) from the field, while teammate Cougar Downing is shooting 45.9 percent (56-for-122) from 3-point range. Western New Mexico’s Carson Kelly is shooting 89.6 percent (95-for-106) from the free-throw line.
Bofinger is the only player in the league averaging a double double (13.5 points and 10 boards).
The LSC Basketball Championship will be March 6-9 at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. The top eight of the 16 men’s teams based on overall conference standings (22 games) will qualify. The men’s quarterfinals will be on March 7, followed by the semifinals on March 8 and the title game on March 9.

OFFENSIVE
Najeeb Muhammad, Lubbock Christian, G, Sr., Mass Media, Las Vegas, Nev.
Lubbock Christian senior guard Najeeb Muhammad averaged 25.5 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals to help the Chaps record two wins and improve their winning streak to eight games. Muhammad shot 62.5 percent from the field and connected on eight of 15 from 3-point range. He also hit all 13 of his free-throw attempts and blocked two shots. Muhammad set a new career high with 30 points – thanks to 9-for-10 shooting – against UT Permian Basin. He played all 40 minutes against Angelo State, scoring 21 points with five rebounds and five assists.
DEFENSIVE
Lewis Rowe, St. Edward’s, C, Gr., Business Administration, Adelaide, Australia
St. Edward’s graduate student and center Lewis Rowe had five blocks, 10 defensive rebounds and two steals to help the Hilltoppers go 2-0 and extend their winning streak to three games. Rowe also averaged 11 points, eight rebounds and two assists as SEU won for the sixth time in seven games. Against Oklahoma Christian, he had a 12-point, 10-rebounds double double. In a tight game with Cameron, Rowe had a steal with under two minutes left that led to a bucket that tied the game. He also blocked a shot in each half.
