Only 10 total games remain in the Lone Star Conference men’s basketball regular season, and the conference title is still up for grabs.
 
DBU (26-4, 18-3 LSC), Lubbock Christian (22-6, 17-3), Midwestern State (21-5, 16-4) and St. Mary’s (19-7, 16-4) are still in the running for the regular season crown. DBU has one game remaining, while LCU, MSU and StMU have two each. To see the remaining schedule, which will be completed on March 1, click here.
 
LCU is the league’s hottest team with a 10-game winning streak. MSU has won seven in a row.
 
The LSC Basketball Championship will be March 6-9 at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. The top eight of the 16 men’s teams based on overall conference standings (22 games) will qualify. To see the LSC’s tiebreaker policy, click here. The men’s quarterfinals will be on March 7, followed by the semifinals on March 8 and the title game on March 9. The first NCAA Division II South Central Regional Rankings were released last week, and six LSC teams were listed as “Under Consideration.” The team names were listed in alphabetical order: DBU, Eastern New Mexico, LCU, MSU, StMU and West Texas A&M. The next rankings, which will be by order, are set to be released on Wednesday (Feb. 26).
 
ENMU is scoring a league-high 88.9 points per game, while LCU is only allowing 65.6 points per game.
 
Sul Ross State’s Ethan Yancy (44 points) has the top-scoring performance this season. Cameron’s Lavell Brodnex (41) also hit the 40-point mark. StMU’s Lachland Bofinger has the most rebounds in a game (17) and Texas A&M International’s Duncan Alevok has an eight-block performance. ENMU’s Austin Abrams has game-highs in assists (11) and steals (seven). TAMIU’s Marco Foster made a league-best eight 3-pointers in a game.
 
Yancy is averaging a league-high 18.2 points per game, followed by WT’s Ahamed Mohammed (17.8) and StMU’s Damani Claxton (17.5). MSU’s Mason Gibson and DBU’s Ricky Lujan are each averaging 17.4 points per game. More league stat leaders include: StMU’s Lachlan Bofiner (9.7 rebounds pg), CU’s Reggie Prudhomme (5.7 assists pg) and ENMU’s Jose Murillo (1.4 blocks pg). ENMU’s Cooper Jackson is averaging 3.3 steals per game. Murillo is shooting 68.1 percent (139-for-204) from the field, while teammate Cougar Downing is shooting 47.4 percent (63-for-133) from 3-point range. Western New Mexico’s Carson Kelly is shooting 90.3 percent (102-for-113) from the free-throw line.

OFFENSIVE
Lavell Brodnex, Cameron, G, Sr., Sports and Exercise Science, Saginaw, Mich.
Cameron senior guard Lavell Brodnex averaged 29 points – including a 41-point game – seven rebounds and three blocks to lead the Aggies to a pair of league wins. Brodnex became just the second player in the conference to reach the 40-point mark since the 2021-22 season. His performance came on senior night against Sul Ross State where he added nine rebounds and five blocks without a turnover. On the week, Brodnex shot 64.5 percent from the field and made all but one of his 17 free throw attempts. He also chipped in two steals and two assists. Brodnex’s play has helped Cameron win three games in a row.
 
DEFENSIVE
DJ Freeman, Angelo State, F, Sr., Interdisciplinary Studies, Midwest City, Okla.
Angelo State senior forward DJ Freeman averaged 12.5 rebounds and blocked five shots to help the Rams win a pair of conference games, including a 68-61 victory over No. 5 DBU that snapped the Patriots’ 11-game winning streak. Freeman, who had 18 defensive boards, led a unit that held DBU to its lowest point production of the season. On the week, Freeman and company allowed just 32.3 percent shooting from the field and 22.6 percent from 3-point range. Freeman added 8.5 points per game, one steal and one assist.
