DBU freshman Gracie Grant was named Lone Star Conference Women’s Golf Player of the Year to lead the league’s annual postseason women’s golf awards announced by league officials on Sunday (April 20) at the championship banquet at Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club in Rockwall, Texas.
Grant, who is from Crestview, Fla., has the conference’s best adjusted scoring average at 71.7. She has two top-3 finishes, six top-10 finishes and has been in the top-25 of all the events she has played. Grant’s record is 559-53-16. Her play has helped the Patriots to three tournament wins, three runner-up finishes and the top ranking in the NCAA Division II West Region rankings. Grant, who is the No. 10 ranked golfer in the country, also took the league’s Freshman of the Year honor.
Grant topped the eight-golfer first team that includes teammates Ella Cheek and Jordan Karrh, St. Mary’s Savannah Dupre and Libby Kilbride, UT Tyler’s Arnie Taguines, and West Texas A&M’s Sarah Reed and Gam Songpraset.
UT Tyler’s Emmerson Doyle was voted Newcomer of the Year after posting a 74.7 adjusted scoring average and a pair of top-5 finishes.
DBU’s Kenny Trapp was named LSC Coach of the Year for the second straight year and fifth time overall after guiding the Patriots to a top-5 national ranking.
In total, 17 players earned recognition. The awards are voted upon by the league coaches.
