Boyer and McCool honored as 2025 LSC Athletes of the Year

National, regional and conference award winners Emilee Boyer and Brevin McCool added 2025 Lone Star Conference Athlete of the Year to their list of season accomplishments and announced by the league office on Thursday (June 26).

Boyer, a pitcher with the West Texas A&M softball program, was selected LSC Women's Athlete of the Year while McCool, an outfielder with the Lubbock Christian baseball program, was named the LSC Men's Athlete of the Year.

The award recipients were chosen from a distinguished group of 17 women and 16 men nominated by their respective institutions. The LSC Athlete of the Year awards are determined by vote of the conference sports information directors and media representatives. This is the 27th year the Lone Star Conference has presented its Athletes of the Year award.

A finalist for the Honda Award representing Division II softball, Boyer (Harrisburg, S.D.) capped her junior season with national player of the year awards from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). A right-handed pitcher who also played first base and designated hitter positions, Boyer was named both LSC Player and Pitcher of the Year and a First Team honoree on the NFCA All-America, NFCA All-South Central Region and LSC All-Conference teams. In addition to her prowess on the diamond, Boyer was named to the LSC Softball All-Academic Team and the Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Boyer finished the 2025 season as the NCAA Division II and LSC leader in home runs (22) and RBI (90) and led the LSC with 236 strikeouts and 28 wins (28-4) in the circle, leading WT to the LSC West Division title, a share of the LSC Championship, and advancement to the NCAA Super Regional.

McCool (Hobbs, N.M.) swept the major national and region player of the year awards and recognized as a First Team All-America and All-South Central Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), and D2CCA. Selected as the LSC Player of the Year and an All-Conference First Team pick, McCool hit .406 with 84 RBI and set the Conference home run records for a career (61), season (31) and single game (4). The senior infielder completed the 2025 season ranked second in home runs, third in slugging percentage (.936) and sixth in RBI among Division II players and led LCU to a berth in the LSC Tournament and the NCAA Division II South Central Regional.

A biology major, McCool is recipient of the LSC Men's Academic Athlete of the Year and LSC Baseball Academic Player of the Year awards for 2025 and earned a third career All-Academic Baseball Team citation. McCool received the LSC Scholar-Athlete Award for Lubbock Christian.

Overall, nominees for this year's LSC Athlete of the Year awards included individuals who led their teams to top national, regional and conference championship finishes; received LSC and national athletic and academic awards; and earned recognition on All-America, All-Region, All-Conference and All-Tournament lists. William Amponsah, West Texas A&M (cross country/track and field); Mere Escobar, Midwestern State (soccer); Ricky Lujuan, DBU (basketball); and Ronald Grueso Mosquera, Texas A&M-Kingsville (track and field), followed McCool in LSC men's award voting. JT Smith, UT Tyler (softball); Grace Foster, Lubbock Christian (basketball); Ashley Ingram, Texas Woman's (basketball); and Delaney Fuller, DBU (volleyball) followed Boyer in voting for the LSC women's award.
