Both Sul Ross State University and the University of Texas at Dallas will advance to their final year of their transition to NCAA Division II membership on September 1 following approval of the Division II Membership Committee July 9.
Sul Ross State will move ahead to year three of its three-year provisional membership while UT Dallas continues to year two of its two-year expedited provisional membership. If conditions of the final year of the provisional process are met, both institutions would become active Division II member institutions on September 1, 2026.
Sul Ross State, who officially began its LSC membership on July 1, 2024, started the shift from NCAA Division III to Division II in September 2023. All 12 Lobos’ teams competed in the LSC throughout the just completed 2024-25 year.
The newest member of the LSC, UT Dallas officially joined the league on July 1 and the 17 UTD teams will play under the LSC banner starting in 2025-26. UT Dallas began its transition from NCAA Division III to Division II in September 2024.
Teams and individuals competing for Sul Ross State and UT Dallas are eligible for regular-season LSC championships and awards but remain ineligible for NCAA postseason competition until gaining full Division II member status. Within the LSC, university and athletics administrators, staff and coaches are engaged in the conference governance structure.
