LSC Indoor Track and Field Release - Week 2

After a 32-day break, the 2026 Lone Star Conference men’s and women’s indoor track and field season resumed with teams competing in meets on Jan. 9-10.
 
LSC athletes have already recorded 34 NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks (14 men and 20 women). Of those, four are the top marks in the country: West Texas A&M’s Nikolas Kosmopoulos in the men’s heptathlon (5,198 points); Angleo State’s 4x400-meter relay team of Opare, Jahleel Armstrong, Taylor Briggs and Rami Balti (3:07.92); DBU’s Ellie Frye in the women’s 800 meters (2:08.94); and WT’s Esther Conde-Turpin in the women’s 60-meter hurdles (8.30).
 
Conde-Turpin was named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Asociation’s National Athlete of the Week on Dec. 15.
 
The 2026 LSC Indoor Track and Field Athletes to Watch List included 18 men and 20 women.
 
The 2026 LSC Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held Feb. 27-28 at Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M. All nine men’s teams and 11 women’s team can participate. West Texas A&M is the defending conference champion on both the men’s and women’s side. The Buffs have won seven titles overall, while the Lady Buffs have hoisted the trophy every year since 2014.
 
The NCAA Division II National Championship is set for March 13-14 at Virginia Beach Sports Complex in Virginia Beach, Va.

MEN’S TRACK
Texas A&M-Kingsville 4x400 Meter Relay Team (Tony Benitez, Jacob Sweirc, Darius Bouakel, Michael Samihamba)
The Texas A&M-Kingsville 4x400 meter relay team of senior Tony Benitez, sophomore Jacob Swierc, sophomore Darius Bouakel and graduate student Michael Samihamba ran a 3:15.29 to win gold at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invite in Houston, Texas. The NCAA Division provisional mark ranks12th in the nation this season and is inside the top 10 in program history.
 
MEN’S FIELD
Trevor Gage Upton, Texas A&M-Kingsville, So., Criminal Justice, Maypearl, Texas
Texas A&M-Kingsville sophomore Trevor Gage Upton cleared a NCAA Division II provisional mark of 4.90m (16-0.75) in the pole vault at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invite in Houston, Texas. He took bronze in the event, behind only Division I competitors. Upton’s clearance is tied for 12th in the entire nation this season and is a top-10 mark in program history.
 
WOMEN’S TRACK
Oneika Brissett, Texas A&M-Kingsville, So., Kinesiology, Montego Bay, Jamaica
Texas A&M-Kingsville sophomore Oneika Brissett ran a 56:11 in the 400 meters to win gold at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invite in Houston, Texas. Brissett’s NCAA Division II provisional mark is the ninth fastest time in the country this season. She also anchored the Javelinas’ 4x400 meter relay team that posted a 3:53.46.
 
WOMEN’S FIELD
Celina Thomas, Eastern New Mexico, Jr., Pre-Med, Lantana, Fla.
Eastern New Mexico junior Celina Thomas set a long jump personal record and recorded the second-best mark in program history with a 5.70m (18-8.50) at the Friday Night Axe Em Open in Flagstaff, Ariz. Thomas finished fifth in the event, behind just NCAA Division I opponents. The mark is ranked 28th in the country. She also ran a 7.78m in the 60-meter dash – also a PR.
