LSC Indoor Track and Field Release - Week 3

Lone Star Conference men’s and women’s indoor track and field athletes have recorded 64 NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks (29 men and 35 women).
 
Of those results, six are the top marks in the country: West Texas A&M’s Nikolas Kosmopoulos in the men’s heptathlon (5,198 points); Angleo State’s 4x400-meter relay team of Jahleel Armstrong, William Opare, Taylor Briggs and Rami Balti (3:07.92); DBU’s Ellie Frye in the women’s 800 meters (2:08.94); WT’s Esther Conde-Turpin in the women’s 60-meter hurdles (8.30); WT’s Blessing Akintoye in the women’s 400 meters (53.33); and WT’s 4x400-meter relay team of Akintoye, Sandra Appiah, Abigail Abugire and Asana Hamidu (3:39.59).
 
Conde-Turpin was named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Asociation’s National Athlete of the Week on Dec. 15.
 
The 2026 LSC Indoor Track and Field Athletes to Watch List included 18 men and 20 women.
 
The 2026 LSC Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held Feb. 27-28 at Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M. All nine men’s teams and 11 women’s team can participate. West Texas A&M is the defending conference champion on both the men’s and women’s side. The Buffs have won seven titles overall, while the Lady Buffs have hoisted the trophy every year since 2014.
 
The NCAA Division II National Championship is set for March 13-14 at Virginia Beach Sports Complex in Virginia Beach, Va.

MEN’S TRACK
James Dadzie, West Texas A&M, Sr., Kinesiology, Akim Oda, Eastern Ghana
West Texas A&M’s James Dadzie began his senior indoor season by running the second fastest 60-meter dash time in all of NCAA Division II this year with a 6.62 at the Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas. Dadzie ran a 6.70 in the opening round, the 6.62 in the semifinals then a 6.63 in the final to finish in fourth place behind only Division I competitors.
 
MEN’S FIELD
Phil Lawrence, Oklahoma Christian, Sr., Accounting, Eaton, Colo.
Oklahoma Christian senior Phil Lawrence had the top weight throw in the conference this season with a 16.20m at the Owen Hewett Invitational in Norman, Okla. He finished sixth in the event won by a Division I athlete and improved on his throw of 15.86m earlier this season. Lawrence also had a 14.31m toss in the shot put.
 
WOMEN’S TRACK
Asana Hamidu, West Texas A&M, So., Sports and Exercise Science, Ghana
West Texas A&M sophomore Asana Hamidu was a part of two school records – in the 600 yards and 4x400 meter relay – at the Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas. She ran a 1:20.29 in the 600 yards, finishing third behind only NCAA Division I competitors. Hamidu then ran the third leg of the 4x400 meter relay team that now owns the fastest time in all of NCAA Division II this year at 3:39.15. The team, which also included Sandra Appiah, Abigail Abugire and Blessing Akintoye, finished behind only Division I teams.
 
WOMEN’S FIELD
Esther Conde-Turpin, West Texas A&M, Sr., Communication Studies, Reunion Island, France
West Texas A&M senior Esther Conde-Turpin posted the seventh best long jump in all of NCAA Division II this season with a 6.01m at the Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas. She finished behind only Division I competitors. Conde-Turpin also had a 1.66m in the high jump as was a part of a 4x400 meter relay team that ran a provisional mark of 3:47.45. She also owns the top 60-meter hurdles time in the country this season (8.30).
