Watch LSC Women’s Basketball live on FloCollege
Due to the winter storm sweeping across the league, just 10 Lone Star Conference women’s basketball games were played last week. The games not played will all be rescheduled.
No. 3 Texas Woman’s (16-1 overall) and No. 6 West Texas A&M (18-1 overall) remain tied for first place in the league standings at 10-0. TWU has won 18 games in a row, while WT has prevailed in 15 consecutive contests. The teams each have a game Thursday before meeting at 1 p.m. CT Saturday in Canyon, Texas. TWU is unbeaten on the road (9-0) and WT is unbeaten at home (8-0).
UT Tyler (13-6, 9-1 LSC) has won seven games in a row, including topping No. 15 Lubbock Christian 55-45 on Jan. 22 in Tyler Texas. The Patriots are in third place in the league standings.
Eastern New Mexico (12-7 overall) is alone in fourth place in the conference standings at 8-2.
Angelo State has won three games in a row, while new league member UT Dallas has won back-to-back games.
TWU is the favorite to win the LSC title this season, according the
preseason poll. WT senior guard Kyla Kane was voted
preseason player of the year.
The LSC women’s basketball tournament will feature the top eight teams and is set for March 6-8 at
Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. Tickets will go on sale in February.
Due to being NCAA Division II provisional members, UTD and Sul Ross State are not eligible for the LSC tournament but are able to win the LSC regular season title and postseason awards.

OFFENSIVE

UT Tyler freshman forward Leila Davis had 25 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and two steals to lead a 55-45 win over No. 15 Lubbock Christian. Davis, who wins the league’s top weekly offensive award for the second time this season, shot 61 percent (11-for-18) from the floor and made three of her four free-throw attempts. She had seven points in the fourth quarter. Davis’ point and board totals were both game highs. Her play has helped the Patriots win seven consecutive games.
DEFENSIVE
Ayonna Cooper, Cameron, G, Fr., Organizational Leadership, Anna, Texas
Cameron freshman guard Ayonna Cooper had 22 rebounds – 15 on the defensive end – and two steals in a game against St. Edward’s. Cooper’s single-game board total is the most in the LSC since the 2019-20 season and second most in a decade. Her 22 rebounds are tied for the fourth highest in a single game in all of NCAA Division II this year. Cooper, who added seven points and four assists, led a unit that allowed just 60 points. Cooper’s play has helped the Aggies win two of their last three games.
