Lone Star Conference softball is two weeks in, and all 17 teams have played at least four games – all non-conference.
No. 6 West Texas A&M (10-2) is the first team to double-digit wins. No. 2 Angelo State is 9-1, while St. Mary’s (8-3) and UT Tyler (8-4) have reached eight victories. No. 14 Oklahoma Christian (7-1) and UT Permian Basin (7-2) have seven wins.
WT leads the league in hitting (.395) and fielding (.989), while OC is tops in pitching (1.17 ERA). ASU ranks in the top three of all categories (.378 hitting, 1.17 ERA and .977 fielding percentage).
League plays begins this week with doubleheaders on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The WT duo of senior infielder Jordyn De Los Santos and freshman left-handed pitcher/designated hitter Brooke Janning
swept the first National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Louisville Slugger Player of the Week and Wilson Pitcher of the Week awards of the season, respectively.
Two-time defending national champion and No. 1 UT Tyler was the top pick in the
LSC preseason poll. ASU senior outfielder Tatiana Trotter and OC senior right-hander Jill Dickson were named
LSC Preseason Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, to headline the 34 players on the league’s
Preseason Watch List.
The nine-team, single-elimination LSC Softball Championship is scheduled for May 6-9 (Wednesday-Saturday) at the site of the league’s No. 1 seed. The LSC Tournament Champion will receive the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Championship.
The South Central Regionals are scheduled for May 14-16 with the Super Regional following on May 21-22. The campus sites are TBD. The national finals are set for May 28-June 3 at Frost Stadium at Warner Park in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Due to being NCAA Division II provisional members, UT Dallas and Sul Ross State are not eligible for the LSC or NCAA tournament but are eligible to win the LSC regular season title and postseason awards.

Lainee Ballin, Texas A&M-Kingsville, OF, So., Sports Business, Cuero, Texas
Texas A&M-Kingsville sophomore outfielder Lainee Ballin hit .588 with three home runs, two doubles and seven RBI over five games – all wins – at the Southern Colorado Crossover. Ballin scored nine runs, walked once and stole two bases. She also played errorless defense and had two assists. Ballin had at least two hits or an extra base hit in each game against Adams State (twice), UCCS, CSU Pueblo and Minnesota Crookstown.
PITCHER
Jill Dickson, Oklahoma Christian, RHP, Sr., Marketing Management, Edmond, Okla.
Oklahoma Christian senior right-hander Jill Dickson tossed 11 scoreless innings with 15 strikeouts over three appearances, going 2-0 for the No. 25-ranked Eagles. She scattered four hits and issued four walks. Batters hit just .105 against her. In her two starts against Black Hills State and Fort Lewis, Dickson allowed just two hits while striking out eight. She also added a hit and walk at the plate. Dickson is now 4-0 on the season with a league-leading 0.32 ERA.
FRESHMAN
Zoey Sifuentes, Angelo State, 3B, Fr., Kinesiology, Lamesa, Texas
Angelo State freshman third baseman Zoey Sifuentes hit .500 with three double and had a .706 on-base percentage to lead the No. 13-ranked Rambelles to a 4-1 week. Sifuentes drew five walks, was hit by two pitches and scored four runs. She also stole a base. One of her doubles helped ASU hand Missouri Western State its first loss of the season. Sifuentes is batting .480 on the season and is tied for the league lead with six doubles and is third in OPS (1.549).
