LSC Indoor Track and Field Release - Week 6

Lone Star Conference men’s and women’s indoor track and field athletes have recorded 102 NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks (44 men and 58 women).
 
Of those results, five are the top marks in the country: Angleo State’s 4x400-meter relay team of Jahleel Armstrong, William Opare, Taylor Briggs and Rami Balti (3:07.92); WT’s Esther Conde-Turpin in the women’s 60-meter hurdles (8.30); WT’s Blessing Akintoye in the women’s 400 meters (53.33); WT’s Abigail Abugire in the women’s 800 meters (2:05.92); and WT’s 4x400-meter relay team of Akintoye, Abugire, Sandra Appiah and Asana Hamidu (3:39.59).
 
Two athletes have been named U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Weeks. Conde-Turpin earned the honor on Dec. 15 and ASU’s Rami Balti won the award on Feb. 2.
 
The 2026 LSC Indoor Track and Field Athletes to Watch List included 18 men and 20 women.
 
The 2026 LSC Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held Feb. 27-28 at Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M. All nine men’s teams and 11 women’s team can participate. West Texas A&M is the defending conference champion on both the men’s and women’s side. The Buffs have won seven titles overall, while the Lady Buffs have hoisted the trophy every year since 2014.
 
The NCAA Division II National Championship is set for March 13-14 at Virginia Beach Sports Complex in Virginia Beach, Va.
 
 
LONE STAR CONFERENCE INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

MEN’S TRACK
Ausencio Martinez, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Fr., Biochemistry, Houston, Texas
Texas A&M-Kingsville freshman Ausencio Martinez won the gold medal in the 200-meter with a 21.78 at the FasTrak Athletix Collegiate Classic in Houston, Texas. His time is top 10 in the LSC this season. Martinez was also a part of the 4x400 meter relay team that finished third with a 3:22.14 and he also ran a personal-best 7.00 in the 60-meters.
 
MEN’S FIELD
Fran Bonifacic, West Texas A&M, Jr., Marketing, Punat, Croatia
West Texas A&M junior Fran Bonifacic totaled 5,402 points in the heptathlon – the third best score in program history – at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in Albuquerque, N.M. Bonifacic’s NCAA Division II provisional total ranks second in the nation and first in the conference. He was runner-up in the shot put (13.66m) and third in the pole vault (4.50m) and 1,000 meters (2:47.16).
 
WOMEN’S TRACK
Oneika Brissett, Texas A&M-Kingsville, So., Kinesiology, Montego Bay, Jamaica
Texas A&M-Kingsville sophomore Oneika Brissett posted a pair of NCAA Division II provisional times at the FasTrak Athletix Collegiate Classic in Houston, Texas. Brissett took gold in the 200-meters with a 24.25 and was runner-up in the 400-meters with a 54.61. Brissett, who wins the conference’s top weekly track award for the second time this season, now has the 15th best 200 time in the country and ninth best 400 time. Both times rank in the top 3 in program history.
 
WOMEN’S FIELD
Esther Conde-Turpin, West Texas A&M, Sr., Communication Studies, Reunion Island, France
West Texas A&M senior Esther Conde-Turpin registered a program record and top pentathlon total in all of NCAA Division II this season with 4,341 at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in Albuquerque, N.M. Conde-Turpin, who wins the conference’s top weekly field award for the second time this year, broke Libby Strickland’s 11-year old record of 3,856 points set in 2015. Conde-Turpin won both the high jump (1.76m) and shot out (13.05m) while finishing second in three other events: long jump (5.71m), 60-meter hurdles (8.32) and 800-meters (2:17.14).
