With two weeks remaining in the Lone Star Conference women’s basketball games regular season, No. 2 Texas Woman’s (22-1 overall) is alone in first place at 16-0. The Pioneers have won 21 straight games and are unbeaten on the road (11-0).
 
No. 8 West Texas A&M (22-32, 14-2 LSC) is alone in second place, followed by UT Tyler (17-8, 13-3 LSC) and No. 23 Lubbock Christian (20-5, 12-4 LSC). Eastern New Mexico (15-9 overall) and Angelo State (13-9 overall) are both 11-5 ASU has won eight games in a row and 10 of its last 11. UT Permian Basin (14-10, 9-7 LSC) and Texas A&M International (12-10, 9-7 LSC) also have winning records in league play.
 
Cameron’s Madison Griggs (17.5) and TWU’s Averee Kleinhans (17.2) are in a tight race for the league scoring title. Midwestern State’s Kerbie Cash (16.8) and ASU’s Majik Esquivel are (16.7) are close behind.
 
TWU’s Gabby Elliott is in the only player in the league averaging double digit rebounds per game (11.3). Western New Mexico’s Jordan Sapien has the assists lead at 3.6 per game. St. Mary’s Raynne Malik leads in blocks per game (2.2), while Sul Ross State’s Victoria Aguayo is tops in steals per game (4.1)
 
TWU is the favorite to win the LSC title this season, according the preseason poll. WT senior guard Kyla Kane was voted preseason player of the year.
 
The LSC women’s basketball tournament will feature the top eight teams and is set for March 6-8 at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. Tickets are now on sale.
 
Due to being NCAA Division II provisional members, SRSU and new league member UTD are not eligible for the LSC tournament but are able to win the LSC regular season title and postseason awards.

OFFENSIVE
Majik Esquivel, Angelo State, G, So., Commercial Aviation, Lubbock, Texas
Angelo State sophomore guard Majik Esquivel averaged 21.5 points per game on 51.7 percent shooting over two road wins to help the Rambelles improve their winning streak to eight games. Esquivel, who wins the league’s top weekly offensive award for the second time this season, scored 29 points against St. Edward’s. She is one of three players in the league to score at least 29 points in a game twice this year. Esquivel also had five rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. She made all seven of her free throws and hit six 3-pointers.
 
DEFENSIVE
Gabby Elliott, Texas Woman’s, F, Sr., Kinesiology, San Antonio, Texas
Texas Woman’s senior forward Gabby Elliott grabbed 21 defensive rebounds, blocked five shots and led a unit that allowed just 24.6 percent shooting over a pair of wins. Elliott, who wins the league’s top weekly defensive award for the third time this season, had back-to-back double doubles as the No. 2-ranked Pioneers increased their winning streak to 21 games. Elliott now has four straight double doubles and 12 overall. Over the two games, she added seven assists and a steal. Her 15 points, 12 boards and six assists in a 71-50 game against Oklahoma Christian were all game highs.
