The Lone Star Conference tennis season is two weeks in, and 18 of the 20 league teams (nine men’s and 11 women’s) have played at least one match.
 
Of those squads, nine are unbeaten: St. Mary’s (3-0), Cameron (2-0), Western New Mexico (2-0) and No. 18 Midwestern State (1-0) on the men’s side and Angelo State (4-0), No. 21 UT Tyler (3-0), Cameron (1-0), No. 8 Midwestern State (1-0), Texas A&M-Kingsville (1-0) on the women’s side. The Sul Ross State men and women open on March 6.
 
February is filled with non-conference matches. LSC play will begin as early as March 4.

The LSC Tennis Championships are scheduled for April 30-May 2 at Arlington Tennis Center in Arlington, Texas. The men’s and women’s single-elimination tournaments will feature the top five men’s teams and top six women’s teams.
 
The NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s regionals will be held at campus sites from May 8-12, while nationals are set for May 19-24 at Surprise Tennis and Raquet Complex in Surprise, Ariz.
 
Due to being NCAA Division II provisional members, UT Dallas and Sul Ross State are not eligible for the LSC or NCAA tournament but are eligible to win the LSC regular season title and postseason awards.

MEN’S SINGLES
Kelly Giese, Lubbock Christian, Jr., Manhattan Beach, Calif.
Lubbock Christian junior Kelly Giese went 3-0 at No. 1 singles against fellow nationally-ranked Washburn, Indianapolis and UT Tyler at the ITA NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. Giese, who also went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles, had comeback wins over Washburn (6–3, 5–7, 6–3) and Indianapolis (5–7, 6–4, 6–2).
 
MEN’S DOUBLES
Job Japelj (Jr., Management, Vrhnika, Slovenia) & Trevor Short (So., Finance, Abilene, Texas), UT Tyler
Job Japelj and Trevor Short of UT Tyler delivered an undefeated week at No. 3 doubles against fellow nationallty-ranked West Florida, Azusa Pacific and Lubbock Christian. After going unfinished with a lead in the first match, the duo delivered a 6-1 win over Azusa Pacific and a 6-4 victory against LCU. Japelj and Short are 4-0 on the season.
 
WOMEN’S SINGLES
Margaux Rene, Angelo State, So., Marketing, Soisy-sur-Seine, France
Angelo State sophomore Margaux Rene went unbeaten at No. 1 singles to help fuel the Rambelles to victories against Southwest Baptist and Ouachita Baptist. Rene rallied for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 win against Southwest Baptist and topped her Ouachita Baptist opponent on the road, 6-3, 6-3. Rene also was unbeaten in No. 1 doubles as ASU improved to 4-0 on the season.
 
WOMEN’S DOUBLES
Margaux Rene (So., Marketing, Soisy-sur-Seine, France) & Benedetta Raggiotti (So., Psychology, Perugia, Italy), Angelo State
Margaux Rene and Benedetta Raggiotti of Angelo State went unbeaten at No. 1 doubles to help the Rambelles to wins against Southwest Baptist and Ouachita Baptist. Rene and Raggiotti, who are now 4-0 on the season, won 6-2 against Southwest Baptist and 6-4 against Ouachita Baptist. Rene also went unbeaten at No. 1 singles, while Raggiotti did not lose at No. 3 singles. The duo’s play has helped ASU stay unbeaten on the season at 4-0.
