LSC Indoor Track and Field Release - Week 8

With the Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships coming this week, conference athletes have recorded 123 NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks (53 men and 70 women).
 
Of those results, three are the top marks in the country: Angelo State men’s 4x400-meter relay team of Jahleel Armstrong, William Opare, Taylor Briggs and Rami Balti (3:07.92); WT’s Esther Conde-Turpin in the women’s pentathlon (4,341); and WT women’s 4x400-meter relay team of Blessing Akintoye, Abigail Abugire, Sandra Appiah and Asana Hamidu (3:39.59).
 
The 2026 LSC Indoor Track and Field Championships are set for Friday and Saturday (Feb. 27-28) at Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M. All nine men’s teams and 11 women’s teams are participating. West Texas A&M is the defending conference champion on both the men’s and women’s side. The Buffs have won seven titles overall, while the Lady Buffs have hoisted the trophy every year since 2014.
 
The NCAA Division II National Championship is set for March 13-14 at Virginia Beach Sports Complex in Virginia Beach, Va.
 
Two athletes have been named U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week. Conde-Turpin earned the honor on Dec. 15 and Balti won the award on Feb. 2.
 
The 2026 LSC Indoor Track and Field Athletes to Watch List included 18 men and 20 women.
 
 
LONE STAR CONFERENCE INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

MEN’S TRACK
Strahinja Radakovic, Eastern New Mexico, So., Physical Therapy, Vaternik, Serbia
Eastern New Mexico sophomore Strahinja Radakovic ran a season-best 8.01 and won the 60-meter hurdles at the Crimson and Cream Qualifier in Norman, Okla. The NCAA Division II provisional time ranks 26th in the country and is tops in the LSC. Radakovic took gold in the finals with a 8.14.
 
MEN’S FIELD
Hemon Joseph, Eastern New Mexico, Sr., Information Systems, La Tante, St. David's, Grenada
Eastern New Mexico senior Hemon Joseph had a 7.22m in the long jump at the Crimson and Cream Qualifier in Norman, Okla. Joseph, who wins the conference’s top weekly field award for the second time this season, owns the top long jump mark in the LSC this season and 19th best jump in all of NCAA Division II. In the meet, he finished fourth behind only Division I competitors.
 
WOMEN’S TRACK
Nyla Bentley, Oklahoma Christian, Fr., Psychology, Frisco, Texas
Oklahoma Christian freshman Nyla Bentley broke the school record in the 60 meters with a 7.51 at the Crimson and Cream Qualifier in Norman, Okla. The NCAA Division II provisional time ranks 22nd in the nation and tops in the LSC. She took bronze in the event, finishing behind only Division I competitors.
 
WOMEN’S FIELD
Minerva Cerda Hernandez, Eastern New Mexico, Jr., Biology, El Paso, Texas
Eastern New Mexico junior Minerva Cerda Hernandez bettered her school record in the pole vault with a 3.60m (11’ 9.75”) clearance at the Crimson and Cream Qualifier in Norman, Okla. The mark ranks third in LSC this season.
