West Texas A&M women hold narrow lead after Day 1 of LSC Indoor Track and Field Championships

West Texas A&M used gold medals by Naomi Addo and the Distance Medley Relay team to build a narrow lead on Day 1 of the Lone Star Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday (Feb. 27) at Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M.

Addo recorded a 17:18.26 in the 5,000 meters, while Eliette Chaput, Cassandra Uribe, Sarah Koomson, Kalkidan Vincendeau, Yvonne Legarreta, Isabella Celis, Sierra Cornell and Helena Klutsey-Carboo posted an 11:49.15 in the DMR.

WT, which has won 12 consecutive conference titles, leads Angelo State by just four points. The Rambelles got a first-place showing from Kamryn Williams in the weight throw (18.52m).

DBU is in third place with 34 points, followed by UT Tyler (29 points) and Eastern New Mexico (28 points) to round out the top five of 10 teams.

Also winning individual gold medals on Friday was UT Tyler’s Juliane Frueh in the pentathlon (4007), Oklahoma Christian’s Laniyah Curry in the long jump (6.06m) and Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Kenzie Kurdy’s in the pole vault (3.92m). Kurdy’s clearance was a school record.

The meet concludes Saturday (Feb. 28) with women’s action getting underway at 12:30 p.m. MT.
