The 2026 Lone Star Conference baseball season is two weekends in and just one team remains unbeaten: St. Mary’s (6-0). The Rattlers opened at Sul Ross State and then hosted Oklahoma Christian this past weekend.
St. Edward’s, new league member UT Dallas and No. 4 UT Tyler are all 5-1. Texas A&M-Kingsville (4-2) has also won its first two series.
UT Tyler won a nationally-ranked series on the road, 2-1, over No. 11 Angelo State.
From this weekend forward, all conference series will be four games.
SEU leads the league in hitting (.317), while ASU is tops in pitching (3.88 ERA). UTD has the best fielding percentage (.857) and ranks second in both hitting (.314) and pitching (3.93 ERA).
UT Tyler was the top pick in the
LSC preseason poll. UT Tyler junior shortstop Drew Schmidt and senior left-hander Caden Copeland were named
LSC Preseason Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, to headline the 28 players on the
league’s Preseason Watch List.
The LSC Baseball Championship will feature a two-week tournament. The opening round is best-of-three series and will be held May 1-3 (Friday-Sunday) at the sites of the No. 2 (vs. No. 7), 3 (vs. 6) and 4 (vs. 5) seeds. The league’s top seed will receive an opening-round bye and host the four-team, double-elimination championship round on May 7-9 (Thursday-Saturday). The LSC Tournament Champion will receive the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Championship.
The South Central Regionals are scheduled for May 14-17 with the Super Regional following on May 21-23. The campus sites are TBD. The national finals are set for May 29-June 6 at USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
Due to being NCAA Division II provisional members, UT Dallas and Sul Ross State are not eligible for the LSC or NCAA tournament but are eligible to win the LSC regular season title and postseason awards.
