The Lone Star Conference women’s basketball regular season is complete, and for the fourth straight year, Texas Woman’s is the regular season champion. The Pioneers (26-1 overall) finished the conference slate with a perfect 20-0 record. No. 1-ranked TWU enters the LSC tournament as the top seed and on a 25-game winning streak.
 
Joining TWU at the LSC tournament at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas is No. 7 West Texas A&M, UT Tyler, Lubbock Christian, Eastern New Mexico, Angelo State, St. Mary’s and UT Permian Basin. Action begins Friday (March 6). Tickets are now on sale.
 
Cameron’s Madison Griggs finished as the regular season scoring champion at 17.9 points per game. Other category leaders were TWU’s Gabby Elliott (11.6 rebounds per game), UTT’s Polina Latysheva (3.4 assists per game), StMU’s Raynne Malik (2.2 blocks per game) and Sul Ross State’s Victoria Aguayo (four steals per game).
 
The LSC All-Conference and All-Academic awards will be announced live at the LSC Basketball Championships Banquet on Wednesday evening, March 4 in Frisco, Texas. They will also be posted on the conference website.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSIVE
Gabby Elliott, Texas Woman’s, F, Sr., Kinesiology, San Antonio, Texas
Texas Woman’s senior forward Gabby Elliott averaged 20 points and 14.5 rebounds to help the No. 1-ranked Pioneers top Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville and finish off the LSC schedule unbeaten (20-0). Elliott, who wins the league’s top weekly offense award for the fifth time this season, also helped TWU extend its winning streak to 25 games. She had a pair of double doubles, including a career-high 19 boards against TAMIU and 26 points – on 62.1 percent shooting – against TAMUK. On the week, she also dished out an assist, blocked three shots and tallied a steal. Elliott has scored 20 or more points nine times this season.
 
DEFENSIVE
Hayley Cumming, UT Tyler, G, Fr., Marketing, Mont Albert, Australia
UT Tyler freshman guard Hayley Cumming averaged 4.5 blocks and 2.5 steals to go along with 14 points per game to lead the Patriots to an unbeaten week against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International. Cumming had a program-record seven blocks – the second highest single-game total in the conference this season – in a 73-50 win over TAMUK. Five of those came in the fourth quarter, where Cumming and company held TAMIU to just 17.65 percent shooting in the 78-67 game. Cumming also added seven rebounds.
