There is a tie for first place in the 2026 Lone Star Conference baseball standings at 26-8: No. 18 UT Tyler and new league member UT Dallas. The two teams have combined to win 17 games in a row (UTD has the top streak with nine).

No. 14 St. Mary’s (25-9) is alone in third place after taking three games from fifth-place West Texas A&M (22-12). Angelo State is in fourth place at 23-11.

UT Tyler has not lost a series all season.

UTD leads the league in hitting (.337) and fielding percentage (.973), while UT Tyler is tops in pitching (4.00 ERA).

UT Tyler’s Cole Ketzner and UTD’s Trent McCown are tied for the league’s home run lead with 10 each. Texas A&M-Kingsville right-hander Garrett Nail leads the conference with 65 strikeouts.

Angelo State’s Austin Beck was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Hitter of the Week on Feb. 19.

UT Tyler was voted as the favorite to win the conference title in the LSC preseason poll. UT Tyler junior shortstop Drew Schmidt and senior left-hander Caden Copeland were named LSC Preseason Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, to headline the 28 players on the league’s Preseason Watch List.

The LSC Baseball Championship will feature a two-week tournament. The opening round is best-of-three series and will be held May 1-3 (Friday-Sunday) at the sites of the No. 2 (vs. No. 7), 3 (vs. 6) and 4 (vs. 5) seeds. The league’s top seed will receive an opening-round bye and host the four-team, double-elimination championship round on May 7-9 (Thursday-Saturday). The LSC Tournament Champion will receive the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Championship.

The South Central Regionals are scheduled for May 14-17 with the Super Regional following on May 21-23. The campus sites are TBD. The national finals are set for May 29-June 6 at USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.

Due to being NCAA Division II provisional members, UTD and Sul Ross State are not eligible for the LSC or NCAA tournament but are eligible to win the LSC regular season title and postseason awards.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

(March 27-29 games)

HITTER

St. Mary’s junior catcher/designated hitter Dillon Lopez batted .692 (9-for-13) with two home runs, a double and eight RBI to lead the No. 14-ranked Rattlers to a series win over West Texas A&M in a battle of two of the league’s top four teams in the standings. Lopez had at least one hit and RBI in all four games, and laid down a sacrifice bunt in each of the final three games – all victories. He also scored five times and stole two bases. In the series opener, Lopez hit home runs in consecutive at bats. In the finale, he went 4-for-4. Lopez also threw out his conference-leading 11th runner trying to steal. He has reached base safely in all 32 games this season.

Texas A&M-Kingsville sophomore right-hander Tyler Schumann tossed 6 1/3 innings of no-hit baseball with nine strikeouts to earn the win on the road against Angelo State. Schumann, who wins the league’s top weekly pitching award for the second time this season, came on in the 8th inning of the eventual 6-5 victory in the series opener.
