The Lone Star Conference tennis regular season is complete, and two teams won the regular season for the first time in program history: the Lubbock Christian men and the UT Tyler women.
 
The No. 12 LCU men (16-5 overall) went 8-0 in league play, while the No. 26 UT Tyler women (17-6 overall) went 9-1 against conference competition.
 
The LSC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championship is scheduled for April 30-May 2 at Arlington Tennis Center in Arlington, Texas. The men’s and women’s single-elimination tournaments will feature the top five men’s teams (LCU, No. 6 UT Tyler, No. 31 Cameron, No. 25 Midwestern State and St. Mary’s) and top six women’s teams (UT Tyler, No. 34 Midwestern State, Lubbock Christian, No. 29 Angelo State, St. Mary’s and Cameron).
 
The NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s regionals will be held at campus sites from May 8-12, while nationals are set for May 19-24 at Surprise Tennis and Raquet Complex in Surprise, Ariz.
 
The LSC postseason awards will be announced Wednesday (April 29).

MEN’S SINGLES
Nehal Naidoo, UT Permian Basin, Fr., Finance, Torbay, Auckland, New Zealand
UT Permian Basin freshman Nehal Naidoo earned a nationally-ranked win in his final match of the season, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), against Lubbock Christian. Naidoo finished the season on a five-match winning streak. The victory against LCU at No. 2 singles was the Falcons’ first over a ranked opponent this year. Naidoo also led UTPB with 10 singles wins.
 
MEN’S DOUBLES
Bruno Sanchez (Jr., Mechanical Engineering, Sabadell, Spain) & Juan David Duque (Sr., General Business, Cali, Colombia), Midwestern State
Midwestern State’s Bruno Sanchez and Juan David Duque were dominate in their final three matches at No. 1 doubles, going 3-0 against Western New Mexico, Sul Ross State and St. Mary’s over three days. Their victory against St. Mary’s in the regular season finale helped the No. 24-ranked Mustangs earn the No. 4 seed in the LSC tournament. Sanchez and Duque, who have now won the league’s top weekly doubles team award twice this season, have won seven consecutive matches.
 
WOMEN’S SINGLES
Andrea De Bernardo, Lubbock Christian, Jr., Marketing, Caracas, Venezuela
Lubbock Christian junior Andrea De Bernardo delivered a perfect week at No. 1 singles to fuel wins against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State. De Bernardo won 6-1, 6-2 against TAMUK then rallied for 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 ranked win over ASU. Her win also clinched the 4-3 victory that put the Lady Chaps in the No. 3 spot for the LSC tournament and capped off the first unbeaten home season in program history. De Bernardo, who wins the league’s top weekly singles award for the second time this season, has won five straight matches.
 
WOMEN’S DOUBLES
Andrea De Bernardo (Jr., Marketing, Caracas, Venezuela) & AnaMaria Zoric (So., Biochemistry, Zubrovnik, Croatia), Lubbock Christian
Lubbock Christian’s Andrea De Bernardo and AnaMaria Zoric had a perfect week at No. 1 doubles against fellow nationally-ranked competition, leading to two team wins. The duo topped Texas A&M-Kingsville 6-3 then prevailed over Angelo State 7-5. De Bernardo and Zoric, who win the league’s top weekly doubles team award for the third time this season, capped off a perfect 10-0 conference slate. They are also 7-0 this year against ranked competition. De Bernardo and Zoric also added four singles victories against TAMUK and ASU.
