Score updates on LSC Scoreboard
The Lone Star Conference softball standings are tight, as five teams are within three games of each other for the top spot: No. 5 West Texas A&M (33-5 overall, 23-3 LSC), No. 25 UT Tyler (32-8, 24-4), No. 14 Oklahoma Christian (31-8, 23-5), No. 12 Angelo State (30-9, 19-5) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (23-1, 18-6).
While WT, UT Tyler, OC and ASU are all ranked in the
latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Poll, it is TAMUK that holds the league’s top winning streak at 11 games.
Two-time defending national champion UT Tyler is coming off a road sweep of then-No. 1 WT. The Patriots have won seven games in a row and 17 of their last 18.
WT leads the league in hitting (.397), while OC is tops in pitching (2.71 ERA) and fielding (.977).
The WT duo of senior infielder Jordyn De Los Santos and freshman left-handed pitcher/designated hitter Brooke Janning
swept the first NFCA Division II Louisville Slugger Player of the Week and Wilson Pitcher of the Week awards of the season, respectively.
UT Tyler was the top pick in the
LSC preseason poll. ASU senior outfielder Tatiana Trotter and OC senior right-hander Jill Dickson were named
LSC Preseason Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, to headline the 34 players on the league’s
Preseason Watch List.
The nine-team, single-elimination
LSC Softball Championship is scheduled for May 6-9 (Wednesday-Saturday) at the site of the league’s No. 1 seed. The LSC Tournament Champion will receive the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Championship.
The South Central Regionals are scheduled for May 14-16 with the Super Regional following on May 21-22. The campus sites are TBD. The national finals are set for May 28-June 3 at Frost Stadium at Warner Park in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Due to being NCAA Division II provisional members, UT Dallas and Sul Ross State are not eligible for the LSC or NCAA tournament but are eligible to win the LSC regular season title and postseason awards.
