Championship Seasons Ahead
Lone Star Conference men’s and women’s teams have closed out the 2025-26 regular season and turn their focus to conference and NCAA postseason play.
  • LSC Golf Championships. The Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club is the site for the 2026 conference tournaments. The women play Monday through Wednesday, April 13-14-15, with DBU as defending champion. The men follow April 20-21-22 with Midwestern State looking to defend its title. Both championships consist of 54-hole stroke play on days one and two, followed by medal match play on day three.
  • NCAA Division II Golf Championships. The two tournaments fill the month of May. Women are set for the South Central/West Super Regional May 4-6 in Pueblo, Colo., followed by the national finals May 12-16 in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Men's Super Regional play is May 7-9 in Stockton, Calif., with the national finals May 18-22 in Boulder City, Nev.
 
LSC Women
Six LSC women’s teams hold spots among the top 50 NCAA Division II teams in the April 8 Scoreboard rankings. DBU at No. 2 and UT Tyler at No. 7 lead the league followed by St. Mary’s (16), Midwestern State (23), West Texas A&M (27), and Angelo State (44).  ... Four LSC players rank in the Scoreboard Top 25 led by DBU’s Ella Cheek at No. 2.  ...  The third NCAA Division II West Region ranking will be released on Friday (April 10).
 
Week in Review
  • RJGA Palm Valley Classic (36 holes, April 3-4): West Texas A&M’s Mia Hammerschmid posted a 5-under 139 for the individual title while four LSC teams recorded top 10 finishes led by WT in the second-place position (585-292, 293). UT Tyler (590-296, 294), Angelo State (598-299, 299) and Lubbock Christian (602-304, 298) listed fourth, seventh and 10th, respectively, among the 27 teams. UT Tyler’s Emmerson Doyle carded an even 144 (70, 74) tying at fourth with three LSC players carding 1-over 145 to tie at sixth -- LCU Nadalie Cannell, ASU Caitlin Vanderkruk and WT Sarah Reed.
  • WT Desert Invite (36 holes, April 6-7): WT and ASU placed one-two on the team leaderboard with both LCU and Texas A&M International tied at 10th in the season’s final regular-season tournament. Led by runner-up Sarah Reed’s 1-under 143 (73, 70), WT shot 295 in each round (590) for its second tournament win of the year. ASU (602-299, 303) was led by Mia Clarke who shot 148 (75, 73) to finish tied at No. 4. Margret Nyamukondiwa carded a 150 (72, 78) to lead TAMIU while Anaya Peralis (154-77, 77) was the top LCU finisher.

LSC Men
St. Mary's remained at No. 8 in the latest NCAA Division II Scoreboard ranking (April 8) followed by West Texas A&M (20), DBU (21) and UTPB (24) in the Top 25 team listing. ... Both St. Mary’s Kongpop Kaikaew (No. 6) and DBU’s Samuel Jenkins (No. 9) rank in the Division II individual top 10.  ...  The third NCAA Division II West Region ranking will be released on Friday (April 10).
 
Week in Review
  • Firekeeper Open (54 holes, April 6-7): West Texas A&M carded an 887 (292, 302, 293) for sixth place and Oklahoma Christian an 894 (300, 296, 298) for 10th place in the 17-team field. Two players -- WT’s Santiago Caride (219-74, 71, 74) and OC’s Verti Perala (219-75, 72, 72) -- to tie for 15th.
  • RJGA Palm Valley Classic (54 holes, April 6-7): Five LSC teams all posted even or under-par totals in thr 20-team tournament. Cameron led the group, finishing tied for fourth with a 22-under 842 (282, 279, 281) behind Rory Gorman’s 7-under 209 (67, 71, 71). UT Permian Basin went 20-under for sixth (844-288, 277, 279), UT Tyler 15-under at eighth (849), Midwestern State carded a 13-under (851) tying for ninth, and Western New Mexico was even-par (864) for 15th. Elvis Steen led TAMIU and LSC players with an 11-under 205 (67, 70, 68) and third on the individual leaderboard. UTPB’s Will Tate tied in fifth behind a 10-under 206. Nineteen LSC players were even or under-par for the tournament.

WOMEN
Mia Hammerschmid, West Texas A&M, Fr., Business, Düsseldorf, Germany
West Texas A&M freshman Mia Hammerschmid claimed her first collegiate victory firing rounds of 70 and 69 for a 139 (-5) at the Palm Valley Classic. Hammerschmid tallied five birdies during the final round with feathers on the par-four 17th and par-four 18th to close out with a two-stroke individual victory as WT finished runner up. Hammerschmid followed with a 149 (+5/71, 78) and tied for seventh at the WT Desert Invitational, helping WT to the team title.
 
MEN
Elvis Steen, Texas A&M International, Sr., Psychology, Plano, Texas
Texas A&M International senior Elvis Steen recorded his best collegiate individual finish and led all LSC players at the RJGA Palm Valley Classic, tying third with an 11-under 205 (67, 70, 68). Steen had an impressive third round with four birdies coming in the 10th through 14th holes as he moved up from sixth place. In the opening round, he carded an eagle in his second hole and three birdies over his final four holes. The Dustdevils closed the Palm Valley Classic with a 2-over 866.
