The Lone Star Conference regular season has come to a close, and No. 4 West Texas A&M is the regular season champion for a third consecutive year.
 
The Lady Buffs (46-4 overall, 36-4 LSC) will host the LSC tournament, which is scheduled for Wednesday-Saturday (May 6-9) at Schaffer Park in Canyon, Texas. WT will be joined at the nine-team, single-elimination event by No. 21 UT Tyler, No. 18 Angelo State, No. 17 Oklahoma Christian, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Lubbock Christian, St. Mary’s, Texas Woman’s and Western New Mexico. 
 
The LSC Tournament Champion will receive the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Championship.

The South Central Regionals are scheduled for May 14-16 with the Super Regional following on May 21-22. The campus sites are TBD. The national finals are set for May 28-June 3 at Frost Stadium at Warner Park in Chattanooga, Tenn.
 
The league’s all-conference, all-academic and golden glove awards will be announced live at the LSC Championship Reception on Wednesday evening (May 6) in Canyon, Texas. The results will then be posted on the conference website.
 
The WT duo of senior infielder Jordyn De Los Santos and freshman left-handed pitcher/designated hitter Brooke Janning swept the first NFCA Division II Louisville Slugger Player of the Week and Wilson Pitcher of the Week awards of the season, respectively. Angelo State’s Tatiana Trotter earned the national player of the week award on May 5.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

HITTER
Tatiana Trotter, Angelo State, OF, Sr., Intelligence and Analysis, Lubbock, Texas
Angelo State senior outfielder Tatiana Trotter hit .600 with five home runs, one double and nine RBI over four road games against No. 6 West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico. She homered in every game and went deep twice in a 13-5 victory against ENMU. Trotter’s last homer of the regular season was the 40th of her career. She also scored six runs, was hit by two pitches and drew one walk for the No. 13-ranked Rambelles. Trotter, who, who is second in the LSC with a .834 slugging percentage and fourth in RBI (54), also played errorless defense.
 
PITCHER
Ariella Saenz, St. Mary’s, RHP, Sr., Law, Pharr, Texas
St. Mary’s senior right-hander Ariella Saenz pitched back-to-back seven-inning complete games, including a no-hitter in the regular season finale against St. Edward’s. Saenz struck out nine batters and scattered six hits over the two road games. She surrendered only one earned run and batters hit just .122 off her over the 14 frames. In the opener of the doubleheader, she fanned a career-high six batters. Saenz, who claims the league’s top weekly pitching award for the second time this season, has won her last four starts – going the distance in three of them.
 
FRESHMAN
Savannah Vanderpool, UT Dallas, RHP, Fr., Psychology, Hesperia, Calif.
UT Dallas freshman right-handed pitcher Savannah Vanderpool earned a road win over No. 15 Oklahoma Christian by tossing 8 1/3 innings of shutout relief with six strikeouts. She scattered five hits – four singles – and walked just one in the 4-3, 11-inning game. Vanderpool then threw two more scoreless relief frames in the nightcap. Over the 10 1/3 innings, she fanned eight and allowed opponents to hit just .176.
