Texas A&M-Kingsville won the 2026 Lone Star Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Cup, it was announced at the annual LSC SAAC Retreat in Denton, Texas. The Javelinas earned the prestigious honor for the second year in a row and a record seventh time overall (also 2010-2014).
The LSC SAAC Cup, which was first presented in 2009, is awarded to the SAAC program with the most points at the end of the academic year. Points are determined by a criteria involving community service projects, Make-A-Wish participation, fundraising for the community, involvement in LSC organized SAAC events, and NCAA organized events.
During the 2025-26 academic year, TAMUK’s SAAC group totaled a record 29,964 points. The Javelinas broke the mark of 27,015 set by Texas A&M-Commerce in 2017-18. St. Mary’s was the 2026 runner-up with 10,555 points, followed by West Texas A&M (9,550 points).
Overall, the LSC’s 18 SAAC groups combined for a record 107,112 points, breaking the mark of 96,054 set in 2016-17.
TAMUK’s SAAC helped organize A Day in the Life of a Javelina Athlete, which created a memorable experience on campus for a boy and girl with special needs, a Shoe Drive, Canned Food Drive and Community Clean Up Days. The Javelinas volunteered with Special Olympics and led fundraising efforts for Driscoll Kids Miracle Network ($712.34), Play4Kay ($228) and Christus Spohn Cancer Center ($388).
The group also continued its tradition of running the 14th annual “Hoggie Hunt,” an Easter egg hunt event that served the community with donated prizes such as bikes, athletic equipment and gift cards.
Junior track and field student-athlete Karina Alvarez served as TAMUK’s SAAC President in 2025-2026. She was assisted by Vice President Eric Barnes (football), Secretary Kaitlin Blount (tennis), Treasurer Jamie Miller (golf) and Social Media Directors Preciousa Silguero (track and field) and Maddi Alaniz (cheerleading). Tarrah Bisch serves as Advisor.
Alvarez, Bisch and football student-athlete Jermiah Conaway represented TAMUK at the LSC SAAC Retreat and accepted the traveling LSC SAAC Cup from LSC Associate Commissioner Danielle Anderson and LSC Assistant Commissioner Hannah Reynolds.
