St. Mary’s earns second LSC Sports Information Staff of the Year Award

St. Mary’s has been named the 2025-26 Lone Star Conference Sports Information Staff of the Year, it was announced by league officials on July 22 at the annual LSC Sports Information Directors Meeting in McKinney, Texas. StMU becomes the first two-time winner of the award, which has been presented for five years. The Rattlers also won in 2022-23.

The LSC SID Staff of the Year Award is voted on annually by the league’s sports information directors and recognizes the on-campus professionals who work throughout the year in service to student-athletes and coaches.

Athletics Communications Director Heather Kennedy leads the Rattlers’ sports information staff and was assisted in 2025-26 by Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Communications Matthew Comuzzie and graduate assistants Bella Ramirez and Kourtney Rosales.

Kennedy handles all the traditional SID duties (compiling statistics, website updating, working with the local and national media, athletics record books and serving as the primary storyteller for the department), while Comuzzie took care of athletics marketing, social media and broadcasts.

Throughout the 2025-26 academic year, the staff played an integral role in promoting and recording the success of Rattlers’ teams. StMU had the LSC women’s golf championship team and saw 12 teams reach LSC postseason play, with six advancing to NCAA Division II/national competition.

Kennedy, a native of Fruita, Colo., has been in the collegiate sports information field for 26 years. She has worked at StMU since the fall of 2018, beginning in a part-time role that evolved into a full-time position during the 2022-23 academic year. Kennedy excels in her role while batting Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, which is a rare neurological disease. She is always willing to assist the conference office and SIDs.

Kennedy recently won the StMU athletic department’s prestigious Rattler Award and was voted to serve as the South Central Regional Representative to the Division II Sports Information Directors Association (D2SIDA) board and College Sports Communicators (CSC) Division II Cabinet in 2026-27. In addition, she was elected chair of the LSC’s sports information group for a two-year term beginning in 2026-27.

Comuzzie, who is a native of San Antonio, Texas, has six years of experience in the sports information field (including Schreiner University) and recently completed his second year at StMU.

Kennedy and Comuzzie are both members of CSC.
