Eastern New Mexico has been named the 2024-25 Lone Star Conference Sports Information Staff of the Year, it was announced by league officials on Wednesday (July 23) at the annual LSC Sports Information Directors Meeting in McKinney, Texas.
The award, which is in its fourth year, is given to the top institutional sports information staff as voted on by the league’s sports information directors and recognizes the on-campus professionals who work throughout the year in service to student-athletes and coaches.
Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Communications Jose Montoya leads ENMU’s sports information staff and is assisted by Sports Information and Media Coordinator Cameron Brennan. Montoya and Brennan also received help in 2024-25 from several LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll student-workers, including Isabella Robertson, Vivian Iracheta, Lanah Rubi and Sydney Iracheta. Robertson has worked in the office for three years. The staff provides communications efforts for all 16 of the Greyhounds’ teams.
In 2024-25, ENMU led sports information efforts for the LSC Indoor Track and Field Championships and Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The SID staff covered the first ever win in the NCAA Division II playoffs for the women’s basketball team, as well as seven athletes in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships and Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Montoya, a native of Los Lunas, N.M., has worked at ENMU since 2022 and been in the sports information field for 11 years (including internships and student positions at Kansas, Knox and Wisconsin). He is the current Vice Chair of the LSC Sports Information Directors group and assists the conference office with photography at banquets and championship events. Montoya is also a voter for the Division II Sports Information Directors Association South Central Regional men’s basketball poll. He has participated in the College Sports Communicators Diversity and Inclusion Fellowship and earned the Diversity and Inclusion grants through the NCAA and CSC.
Outside of his work, Montoya is the Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus council in Portales, N.M., and enjoys competing in national golf tournaments.
Brennan, a native of Warwick, R.I., has worked at ENMU for four years and been in the SID profession for seven years (including graduate assistant work at Suffolk). He is the primary stat inputter for ENMU athletics.
Montoya and Brennan, who are always willing to assist SIDs around the conference, are both members of CSC.
