St. Mary’s has been named the 2022-23 Lone Star Conference Sports Information Staff of the Year, it was announced by league officials on July 26 at the annual LSC Sports Information Directors Meeting in McKinney, Texas.
 
The award, which is in its second year, is given to the top institutional sports information staff as voted on by the league’s sports information directors and recognizes the on-campus professionals who work throughout the year in service to student-athletes and coaches.
 
Athletics Communications Director Heather Kennedy leads the Rattlers’ sports information staff. She has worked at St. Mary’s since the fall of 2018, beginning in a part-time role that evolved into a full-time position this academic year.
 
Kennedy, a native of Fruita, Colo. who has been in the collegiate sports information field for 23 years, provides communications efforts for all 14 of St. Mary’s sports. In 2022-23, she publicized a LSC champion men’s soccer team, LSC tournament champion women’s tennis team and academic national champion women’s golf team. She also covered St. Mary’s first STUNT team.
 
Kennedy served as official scorer of the 2022 LSC Men’s Soccer Championship, 2022 NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Championship first three rounds and 2023 LSC Softball Championship. She is always willing to provide statistical support for any school in the conference.
 
Kennedy is a Division II Sports Information Directors of America voting coordinator for softball and also serves on the organization’s South Central Region voting committee for women’s basketball. She is one of the leads for a Communications and Digital Media group in Women Leaders in College Sports and is a member of College Sports Communicators.
 
Kennedy excels in her sports information role while batting Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, which is a rare neurological disease.
