All 10 Lone Star Conference football teams were in league action during Week 3. No. 16 Central Washington, Midwestern State, Texas A&M-Kingsville, UT Permian Basin and West Texas A&M all prevailed. To read the recaps, click here.
 
Week 4 will feature five more conference games on Saturday, Sept. 26. Of those matchups, Midwestern State travels to West Texas A&M in a battle of teams that both won their league openers.
 
MSU is tops in the league in total offense (544 yards per game), while Sul Ross State is tops in defense (345.7 yards per game). MSU is scoring a conference-best 47 points per game and UTPB is allowing a league-low 21.7 points per game. CWU (35.3 yards per game) is the least penalized team in the LSC.
 
CWU was picked to repeat as the LSC champion this season, according to the league’s preseason poll. Western Oregon senior quarterback Jordan McCarty and CWU senior linebacker Brycen Indell were predicted to win preseason player of the year honors.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSIVE
Tory Simmons, West Texas A&M, RB, Sr., Business Education, Pompano Beach, Fla.
West Texas A&M senior running back Tory Simmons had 133 yards and three touchdowns – two in the fourth quarter – on just nine carries to fuel a 27-19 road win over Angelo State. Simmons’ first TD run was for 44 yards and came in the third quarter to give the Buffs their first lead, 14-12. He then provided WT another lead, 20-19, on a 10-yard run with 8:04 to play. Simmons sealed the Buffs’ first win in San Angelo, Texas, since 2018 with a 49-yard scoring run with 6:14 remaining. His three rushing TDs are tied for the second most in a single game in the LSC this season. Simmons also caught one pass for seven yards.
 
DEFENSIVE
Brycen Indell, Central Washington, LB, Sr., Marketing, Eugene, Ore.
Central Washington senior linebacker Brycen Indell made 16 tackles – the most in a single game in the conference this season – to help the No. 16-ranked Wildcats record a comeback win over No. 10 Western Oregon. The LSC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, who had two tackles for loss, helped slow the league’s top offense and hand the Wolves their first loss. Indell and company shut out WOU in the third quarter as they rallied from a 24-17 halftime deficit and took a 31-24 lead.
 
SPECIAL TEAMS
Micai Thompson, UT Permian Basin, KR, Fr., Communication, San Antonio, Texas
UT Permian Basin freshman Micai Thompson started the second half with a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to help the Falcons cruise to a 66-7 road win over Sul Ross State. Thompson’s return was the longest in the conference this season and just the second one taken back for a score. He also had three rushes for 15 yards on offense.
