The Lone Star Conference cross country season is three weeks in.
 
The LSC has nine team championships so far: UT Tyler women (UT Tyler XC Opener), UT Tyler men (UT Tyler XC Opener), Texas A&M-Kingsville men (Bearkat Twilight), DBU women (Gerald Richey UTA Invitational), Texas A&M International women (Mountaineer Hill Country Invitational), TAMIU men (UIW Invitational and Mountaineer Hill Country Invitational), West Texas A&M women (Texas Tech Open) and WT men (Texas Tech Open).
 
Three individuals have won a combined four titles: TAMIU freshman Shamil Kiprono (UIW Invitational and Mountaineer Hill Country Invitational) and freshman Yvonne Jepkoech (Mountaineer Hill Country Invitational) and Cameron senior Victor Ramos (Mustang Derby).
 
WT freshman Meshack Keter was named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week on Sept. 22. He is the first Buff to be honored since two-time NCAA Division II national champion William Amponsah won in 2023.
 
WT is the favorite to win both the LSC women’s and men’s title this season, according to the preseason polls. The LSC Runners to Watch lists includes 28 women and 25 men.
 
The LSC Cross Country Championships (women’s 6K and men’s 8K) are set for Saturday, Nov. 7 at LCU Cross Country Course in Lubbock, Texas. The event will be broadcast on FloCollege.
 
The NCAA Division II South Central Regional (women’s 6K and men’s 10K) will be held Saturday, Nov. 21 also at LCU Cross Country Course.
 
The NCAA Division II Championships (women’s 6K and men’s 10K) are set for Saturday, Dec. 4 at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kan. The event will be broadcast on NCAA.com.

WOMEN’S & WOMEN’S FRESHMAN
Michelle Jemutai, West Texas A&M, Fr., Undecided, Iten, Kenya
West Texas A&M freshman Michelle Jemutai paced the Lady Buffs to a team victory at the Texas Tech Open in Lubbock, Texas. Jemutai, who was making her collegiate debut, recorded a 21:19.3 on the 6K track to finish in second place overall. She finished behind only an NCAA Division I opponent.
 
MEN’S & MEN’S FRESHMAN
Meshack Keter, West Texas A&M, Fr., Undecided, Iten, Kenya
West Texas A&M freshman Meshack Keter led the way for the Buffs to win the Texas Tech Open in Lubbock, Texas. Meshak, who was making his collegiate debut, posted a 23:52.7 on the 8K course to finish as the runner-up. He finished behind only an NCAA Division I opponent
