LSC Women's Golf Championship: Tarleton takes lead heading into final round

Tarleton State posted a five-over par 293 on Monday to move to the top of the leader board after two rounds at the Lone Star Conference Women’s Golf Championships. The annual league event, which features 10 women's teams, is being held at WinStar Golf Course in Thackerville, Okla.

The TexAnns (321-293=614) moved ahead of West Texas A&M (318-297=615) by one stroke at plus-38.  Tarleton sophomore Katy Ward led the charge with a two-under 70 highlighted by four birdies to move into third place at plus-3.

Angelo State (617), Central Oklahoma (626) and Northeastern State (630) rounded out the top five teams heading into Tuesday’s final round.

ASU’s Raelyn Smith posted a 68 with six birdies to take the individual lead at one-over 145 (77-68).  Her round of 68 matched the lowest round score in LSC Championship play, which was set by UCO’s Kelly Callison in 2004.

The Bronchos Cassy Knight is just one stroke off the lead at two-over 146 (74-72).
