WT, MSU capture LSC Cross Country titles

West Texas A&M won its sixth consecutive men's title and Midwestern State captured its seventh women's crown at the 2018 Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships held Saturday at The Range in Canyon, Texas.

Briggs Wittlake finished second (25:32.20) to pace the Buffs, who had four runners in the top 7 for 34 points.  Daniel Haymes, Butare Rugenerwa, and Theo Daescheler finished 5-6-7, respectively, in the 8,000-meter race.

Tarleton State finished second with 37 points, and Cameron was third with 88. Western New Mexico was fourth, and Texas A&M-Commerce fifth followed by UT Permian Basin, Eastern New Mexico, Texas A&M-Kingsville, and Angelo State.

Cameron’s James Majenge claimed the individual title in 25:17.20 to earn Newcomer of the Year acclaim. 
WNMU’s David Apodaca finished eighth and earned Freshman of the Year honors.

MSU earned its seventh overall title and third in the last four years with 57 points as three runners earned all-conference honors.  Bridget Reilly led the Mustangs placing second with a time of 22:55.00 in the 6K.  Jasmine Amo and Amerhyst Aguirre joined Reilly in the top 10.

Tarleton finished in second with 68 points, while ENMU was third with 87.  WT placed fourth, and ASU fifth followed by CU, WNMU, A&M-C, UTPB, and TAMUK.

ENMU’s Mercy Rotich claimed the individual title in 21:54.20.  The Greyhounds Evaline Cheptoo earned Newcomer of the Year honors with a sixth place finish.

ASU’s Jazmin Hernandez placed 11th and earned Freshman of the Year acclaim.

The top 15 finishers in each race earned All-LSC runner honors.
