LSC Volleyball preseason honors announced

A trio of Lone Star Conference volleyball standouts were honored Wednesday as league officials announced the 2018 Preseason Players of the Year.

Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Madison Brabham was named Offensive Player of the Year, Texas A&M-Commerce’s Shelley Chapron earned Defensive Player of the Year acclaim, and Angelo State’s Meghan Parker was tabbed Setter of the Year.

The league’s preseason awards were selected by a vote of LSC head coaches and sports information directors, plus various media representatives from throughout the region.

Brabham, a senior right side hitter from Kingwood, Texas, was a first-team All-LSC selection after leading the Javelinas with 336 kills and 2.85 per set in 2017.

Chapron, a junior middle blocker/right side hitter from Houston, Texas, earned AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention, first-team All-LSC and Newcomer of the Year honors after leading the LSC with 155 blocks last year.  She was second in the LSC in blocks per set (1.22) and fourth in hitting percentage (.303).

Parker, a junior setter from San Antonio, was a second-team All-LSC selection last season, while averaging 9.54 assists per set.

These talented players will lead their teams into the 2018 season, which begins in late August.  The LSC has 11 teams set to compete utilizing a one-conference double round-robin scheduling model, in which each team will play a home and away match against each of the other teams.
