West Texas A&M is favored in the 2018 Lone Star Conference women’s soccer preseason poll released Wednesday.
WT, the defending tournament champions, captured 10 of the 18 first-place votes for 109 total points to rank in front of Texas A&M-Commerce. The Lions were second with a pair of top votes and 99 points.
Angelo State, the reigning LSC champions, ranked third with 96 points and five first-place votes. Midwestern State was fourth (83), with Texas Woman's (51), Eastern New Mexico (42) and UT Permian Basin (24 and one top vote) rounding out the poll.
The league’s preseason poll was selected by a vote of LSC head coaches and sports information directors, plus various media representatives from throughout the region.
The 2018 soccer season starts on the pitch in late August. Each of the seven LSC teams will play the other twice during the regular season, with the results of those contests to be used in determining the seeds for a six-team postseason conference tournament. This year’s tournament will have the quarterfinals on campus October 31 and the semifinals and final at the No. 1 seed November 2-4, 2018.
