LSC Cross Country awards announced

The Lone Star Conference honored 30 student-athletes and two head coaches as the league announced the annual cross country all-conference honors.

The announcement of the all-conference awards comes following the LSC Cross Country Championships where West Texas A&M won its seventh consecutive men’s title and Lubbock Christian picked up its first LSC women’s cross country championship.

All-conference honors are given to runners who finish among the top 15 individually at the conference meet. Additional awards are presented for Newcomer, Freshman and Coach of the Year on both the men’s and women’s sides. The Coach of the Year award is given based on a vote of the league’s cross country head coaches.

WT’s Jake Krolick earned the men’s coach of the year award for the third straight year after leading the Buffs to another conference title, and LCU’s Leigh Cordes was named the women’s coach of the year after guiding the Lady Chaps to their first conference crown.

Newcomer of the Year went to WT’s Ezekiel Kipchirchir on the men’s side following his individual win at the conference meet. Eastern New Mexico’s Aminata Kenyawani was named the Newcomer of the Year on the women’s side following her sixth-place finish in Silver City, N.M.

The men’s Freshman of the Year award went to LCU’s Patrick Chemoimet who placed fourth in the conference meet, and WT’s Daphne Pate was named the women’s Freshman of the Year after taking third.
