NCAA DII Cross Country Championship - Results
SACRAMENTO – West Texas A&M’s men’s team finished 10th at the Division II Cross Country National Championships in Sacaramento, Calif. on Saturday. The Buffaloes were led by Lone Star Conference Newcomer of the Year Ezekiel Kipchirchir who placed 12th overall.
Kipchirchir was the highest-placed LSC finisher completing the 10-kilometer course in 30:07.8 to earn All-America honors. The Kenya native’s 12th-place finish was the highest by an LSC runner at the national championship since Cameron’s Thomas Toth finished 11th in 2014. Ahmed Omer was the next-highest finisher for WT coming across the finish line in 68th place, while earning 57th-place points, in a time of 31:12.3. Butare Rugenerwa (94th, 80 pts.), Emmanuel Too (115th, 96 pts.) and Justin Vigil (127th, 107 pts.) rounded out the scoring for the Buffs.
Cameron’s James Majenge earned All-America honors placing 31st in the race as one of two LSC runners competing individually. The senior finished the course in 30:34.4 and was the first CU runner to compete at the national championship since Toth in 2014.
Lubbock Christian’s Patrick Chemoimet, the LSC Freshman of the Year, also competed individually finishing the 10k course in 31:41.1 to finish 114th in the race.
