SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Andres Brictson, Oklahoma Christian, posted his second top-three finish in as many tournaments this fall, leading No. 15-ranked OC to its second team win of the season in the Missouri Southern Fall Invitational at Shangri-La Golf Club (par 72, 6,840 yards) in Monkey Island, Okla. He opened with a 6-under 66 -- the lowest round by any player in the 108-man field -- and added a 74 in the second round to finish the tournament at 4-under 140, tying for third place individually and helping OC win the Missouri Southern tournament for the second straight year.
Keiton Hoster, Midwestern State, bagged his best finish as a collegian tying for third at the Golf Glove Hub St. Edward's Fall Classic this week at the Avery Ranch Golf Club. The junior from Weatherford carded three par-or-better tallies logging scores of 72, 69 and 72 for a 3-under, 54-hole total of 213. Hoster amassed 12 birdies while going 4-under on Par-5 holes and even on Par-3s to rank amongst tournament leaders. His efforts helped Midwestern State to a runner-up team finish.
Erik Strömfelt, West Texas A&M, led the way for West Texas A&M this past Monday and Tuesday in Austin as WT finished sixth at the Golf Glove Hub St. Edward's Fall Classic at Avery Ranch Golf Club. The freshman shot a 214 (-2) to finish tied for 5th following rounds of 70, 76 and 68. Strömfelt tied the fourth lowest score in program history during Tuesday's final round with a -4 (68) as the Stockholm native began the round with a pair of bogeys (6 & 7) before finding a rhythm on the back-nine with five birdies including a stretch of four in five holes to shoot -4 (32) in the final nine holes of the course followed by back-to-back feathers on 2 & 3 and a pair of pars to close out his round.
Hayden Montoya, UT Tyler, improved on season-opening 50th-place finish at Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational to a top-10 score, finishing 9th overall after shooting even-par at the Golf Glove Hub St. Edward's Fall Classic.
Anna Kittelson, Midwestern State, placed in the Top 10 for the second consecutive tournament logging scores of 69, 72 and 77 for a 2-over, 54-hole total of 218.The sophomore from San Antonio holed out for eagle three times on her way to a 3-under 69 in the opening round of the DBU Women's Classic at Wildhorse Golf Club on Robson Ranch. Kittelson holed out from 33 yards away on the par-5, 504-yard Hole No. 8 for her first eagle, then bombed a shot into the hole from 85 yards for her second eagle on the par-4, 358-yard 15th hole. Kittelson finished her eagle run by chipping in from the green-side bunker on the par-5, 470-yard Hole No. 2. To put the feat in perspective, no other play in program history accounted for more than two eagles in a career, let alone one round. Kittelson was the Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year last season.
Elena Castanon, St. Edward’s, finished tied for seventh place at the DBU Classic. The Austin, Texas, native shot the lowest round of her career, carding a 68 in the final round of the tournament to secure the top-10 finish. Castanon's 68 was the lowest score of the third round for the entire field and the second-lowest score of the entire tournament. She carded eight birdies during the tournament.
Junie Khaw, Tarleton State, led the Texans on the individual leaderboard with a 151 (+7), tying for seventh place at the RJGA Shootout in Goodyear, Arizona. It's the first top-10 finish of the year for Khaw and the second top-20 finish for the junior from Malaysia. Khaw had rounds of 70 and 81, totaling 21 pars and five birdies.
