The LSC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships are set for Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020 in San Angelo, Texas hosted by Angelo State. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, fans and spectators will not be allowed to attend the championships in person. For more information, visit

Nicodemus Rotich, Texas A&M University-Commerce, FR, Kinesiology & Sports Studies, Eldoret, Kenya, Tambach Boys HS
Nicodemus Rotich claimed his third win in three starts to start his collegiate career with Texas A&M-Commerce, picking up the individual title at the ASU Blue & Gold Classic. He completed the 8-kilometer course in 25:34.29 to win by 1.96 seconds. Rotich was also the champion at the DBU Orville Rogers Opener and his home meet, the East Texas Shootout, sweeping his regular season with wins in all three races.
WOMEN’S
Madison Brown, DBU, SO, Biology, Round Rock, Texas, Round Rock Christian Academy
Madison Brown helped lift the DBU women’s cross country team to its third consecutive victory with her first career win at the ASU Blue & Gold Classic in San Angelo on Saturday. Brown crossed the finish line in 22:13.4 in the 6-kilometer event, averaging 5:57.6 per mile as the Lady Patriots took four of the top five places in the race.

DBU’s Megan Smith posted the top freshman time at the ASU Blue & Gold Classic in San Angelo on Saturday, posting a time of 23:52.1 in the 6-kilometer event. Smith’s contributions helped lift DBU to its third straight win to open the 2020 season as the Lady Patriots took four of the top five places in the race.

SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Butare Rugenerwa, West Texas A&M, led the Buffs to a first-place team finish at the ASU Blue & Gold Classic on Friday evening in the men's 8-kilometer race after posting a second-place finish overall. The Amarillo native completed the course in 25 minutes, 36.3 seconds for his second Top 5 finish this season.
Matthew Jones, Angelo State, has been a consistent finisher for the Rams placing in the top 10 in his first two races and in the top 25 in the ASU Blue & Gold Classic this past Saturday. Jones finished the race with a time of 26:58.7, pacing the 8-kilometer race at 5:23.6 per mile to finish 21st out of 65 runners.
Colten Brown, Oklahoma Christian, led the way for the Eagles in the Oklahoma State Invitational, helping them down Big 12 Conference opponent Oklahoma for the second time in 15 days. Running on one of the nation’s top courses against an eight-team field that included seven Division I squads – including powerful Northern Arizona, Oklahoma State and Brigham Young, along with Southern Utah, Kansas State, Texas-El Paso and Oklahoma – Brown covered the 8,000 meters in 26:07.2. He placed 62nd, finishing ahead of 26 Division I runners as OC finished ahead of OU in the team standings.
Preston Williamson, DBU, helped lift the Patriots to a second-place finish at the ASU Blue & Gold Classic on Saturday, finishing in eighth place with a time of 26:00.4 in the 8-kilometer event. It marked Williamson's third straight top-10 finish to begin his collegiate career.
Kenya Bailey, Oklahoma Christian, running on one of the toughest cross country courses in the nation, led the Eagles as they competed in the Oklahoma State Invitational as the only NCAA Division II squad in a seven-team field. Bailey covered the 6,000 meters on the OSU course in 23:43.8 to finish 46th, meaning she finished ahead of 24 Division I runners in the 75-woman field.
Abril Escamilla, Texas A&M International, ran to her third top 10 and second top-five finish of the season, coming in fifth at the ASU Blue & Gold Classic. She finished with a time of 22:38.9 in the 6-kilometer event to lead the Dustdevils to a third-place team finish.
Marina Grimaldo, Angelo State, has been a model of consistency this season finishing first for the Belles in every race so far. Grimaldo completed the ASU Blue & Gold Classic course in a time of 25:59.92, averaging 5:11.8 per mile of the race to finish 33rd among a field of 63 runners.
