LSC Golf Weekly Release - Week 5

GOLFERS OF THE WEEK
MEN’S
Garrett Leek, Midwestern State, SO, Management, Brock, Texas, Brock HS
Leek outdueled teammate Jake Doggett to claim his second win of the season in the UT Tyler Fall Invitational at Eagle's Bluff Country Club. The sophomore from Brock matches his own program record with a 10-under, 54-hole total of 203 to win by two strokes and help the Mustangs win the team title. Leek fired scores of 69, 69 and 65 to lower his season stroke average to an even 69. Leek became just the fifth player in program history to win multiple tournaments in a single season joining Derek Oland, Jared Baker, Trip Hobson and Santiago Gomez. It was his third career win matching Baker (2014-17) for the second most in program history, while Oland claimed nine wins from 2012-15. Leek's final round total of 65 (-6) was the second lowest score to par of his career falling just shy of his final round, 8-under 63 performance on his way to his first collegiate win at the 2019 MSU Invitational. In 11 competition rounds this fall, Leek boasts eight scores in the 60s and 10 par-or-better tallies.

WOMEN’S
Julia Garcia, DBU, R-FR, Business, Temple, Texas, Belton HS
Garcia was the only player to shoot under par (-2) en route to winning the Lion Classic in Arlington, Texas. Amidst bitter cold, wind, and rain that ultimately canceled the second and third rounds, the redshirt freshman shot the low round of the day, carding a 70 in the tough conditions. The win is the second in Garcia's young career and paced the Patriots to a first-place team finish.
