SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Brenda Dominguez, Western New Mexico, turned on the afterburners on the back nine Tuesday as she roared past Lindenwood's McKenna Montgomery to defend her 2019 title in the 2020 SMSU Spring Invitational at the Wigwam Resort, near Phoenix. Dominguez shot the tournament's low round of 70 to take her second Blue Ribbon in the event. Matched up with Monday's opening 74, Brenda's even-par 144 effort led her Mustang teammates to a third-place finish in the tournament after rounds of 312-304.
Junie Khaw, Tarleton State, led Tarleton with another top-10 finish at the CSU San Marcos Fujikura Invitational in California, placing ninth individually with a score of 150 (+6). Khaw carded a 75 (+3) in both rounds and led the Texans with five birdies and added 21 pars. Khaw ranked second among 78 individuals in Par 5 scoring, shooting -3 for an average score of 4.63 on Par 5s. It's the fourth top-10 finish of the season for Khaw, who has also placed in the top 20 in all six tournaments this season.
Zoe Mayfield, UT Tyler, was one of 11 players in the tournament (and only individual from a Lone Star Conference program) to shoot a round below 75, tying for fifth individually in the first round of the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational... Finished the two-round day with a second round of 78 to finish in a tie for 11th on the individual leaderboard with a two-round score of 152 (+6).
Wilma Merenmies, Oklahoma Christian, overcame brutally difficult playing conditions in the Diffie Ford-Lincoln Invitational to shoot 77-76--153 (+13) and tie for 14th (among 94 players) at Kickingbird Golf Course in Edmond, Okla. (par 70, 5,821 yards). On the first day of the tournament, players dealt with shifting wind gusts of up to 32 mph. Merenmies posted her fourth top-20 individual finish in five collegiate tournaments while leading the Eagles to a seventh-place team finish.
