Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships
The LSC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships are set for Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020 in San Angelo, Texas hosted by Angelo State. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, fans and spectators will not be allowed to attend the championships in person. For more information, visit

Nicodemus Rotich, Texas A&M-Commerce, FR, Kinesiology & Sports Studies, Eldoret, Kenya, Tambach Boys HS
Rotich was the race champion at the DBU Orville Rogers Opener in his first collegiate cross country race, completing the 8-kilometer course in a time of 25:36.9, just over 23 seconds quicker than his closest competitor. His performance marked the fastest 8-kilometer race by a Lion since the 2016 Lone Star Conference Championships.

Marissa Insinna, DBU, JR, Sociology and Commercial Art, McKinney, Texas, McKinney North HS
DBU junior Insinna won her first career race, clocking a personal record time of 18:09.6 in the women's 5-kilometer event to capture first place at the Orville Rogers DBU XC Opener last week. Insinna averaged 5:50.7 per mile to outpace the field of 65 runners. Insinna's performance helped lead the Lady Patriots to a first-place team finish over a field of six teams, including four other teams from the Lone Star Conference.

SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Noah Metzgar, DBU, led the Patriots to a first-place team finish at the Orville Rogers DBU XC Opener after posting a second-place individual finish in the men's 8-kilometer event. Metzgar posted a time of 26:09.3 and averaged a time of 5:15.7 per mile in a field that featured 64 runners.
Eduardo Gutierrez, Cameron, led the CU men to a first-place finish at the Aggie Duels last Friday. The senior paced the squad with a time of 26:55.0 in the 8-kilometer race, finishing in first place individually to pick up the first win of his CU career. Gutierrez was neck and neck with teammate Loic Rossignaud the whole race, until the end when he edged out his fellow Aggie by just five seconds.
Innocent Murwanashyaka, West Texas A&M, led the Buffs last week as he claimed the individual win in his first showing for WT at the LCU College Invite in Lubbock, Texas. The junior completed the 8-kilometer course in 26:02.6 seconds to lead the Buffs to a third-place team finish with a total of 76 points. His sister Florance Uwajeneza finished first overall for the women’s race for WT.
Justin Hill, Cameron, finished the Aggie Duels with a time of 29:28.0 over the 8-kilometer race in hist first collegiate race which placed him eighth. Hill was one of two CU freshman to finish in the top-10 in the squad's debut meet of the season.
Angel Contreras, UT Tyler, placed eighth and led a quintet of Patriots who finished in the top-20 individually at the Orville Rogers DBU XC Opener with a time of 26:51.8 over the 8-kilometer course.
Keyanna Patterson, Cameron, led the way for CU at the Aggie Duels from the start, posting the only sub-20-minute time in the 5-kilometer race. The Wichita, Kan. native recorded a personal best time of 19:49.0, kicking off her third year as an Aggie on a high note with the first race win of her career beating the second-place finisher by a full minute.
Florance Uwajeneza, West Texas A&M, made her presence known at the LCU College Invite as the junior finished first overall after she completed the 5,000-meter course a minute faster than Western New Mexico’s Britany Lovato. Her time of 18:22.9 seconds led the Lady Buffs to a first-place team finish with a total of 35 points. Her brother Innocent Murwanashyaka took first overall in the men’s race for WT.
